Dre,
This girl cannot read the difference between SCHWARTZ and SONDHEIM.
I also clearly stated that I was speaking to Elphaba610 NOT to Wicked fans. I like Wicked as well and consider myself a fan. However, I have enough sense and am open-minded enough to discover other shows.
I don't think anyone is unaccepting if someone doesn't like a show. But Elphaba has know idea about Into the woods, they basically know nothing about the show, or the reason for it, nor why the music is the way it is. As far as I'm concerned is it's ingnorance and not being open minded. If you know nothing about a show, you can't right out say it sucks, when in fact you have no idea why it sucks in the first place.
well, she did say that she was just getting inot Broadway, she's not a broadway fanatic yet.
and i only said that it seemed like you couldn't accept people who had different views than you. If Wicked is her favorite musical ever, let it be. She might find a better one later on that she likes more.
And I know the difference between the two composers but if you look quickly at a cover, you can easily get confused.
And yes, I was the one that said I didn't like Peters. I don't like her singing style at all. But her acting in ITW was great! I just said that Williams had a better singing voice. and, to create the best Witch for ITW, combine Williams and Peters to have a woman with Williams singing ability and Peters acting ability. It would be perfect.
glad the other thread was cut.
Dre, I can respect your opinion that you don't like Bernadette - to each his own. Elphaba610 just seems to be too easily dismisive of any show that isn't Wicked. I totally see what you are saying in his/her defense, but come on, "if you look quickly at a cover, you can easily get confused" if looking at a cd cover gets you "easily confused" then perhaps there are bigger problems to be dealt with.
I respect your oppinion about Peters and Willams, but I will never be able to agree, for the sheer fact that I don't like Vanessa's singing, and I find Bernadette ( my favorite Broadway actress, though I admit shes' not the greatest singer) to be the perfect witch, since Sondheim had her in mind when he wrote it I recall. As you see from my avatar and siggie Bernadette is my all time favorite, so I will never agree to anyone being a better witch than her
Carl Magnum for once I absolutely agree with you.
Elphaba610, madame, child, prepubescent little girl. You darling need to get a life before you traipse in here acting like you know anything about Wicked or Into the Woods.
You need to learn a little about the beauty of music, you need to learn to appreciate music and study it and analyze it and believe in it and feel it and experience it and sense it and cry for it and laugh at it and be moved in such a way that you don't know what to do.
To enter into the musical theatre world with a closed mind will leave you cold and bewildered. There is so much to love in the music of Stephen Schwartz and Stephen Sondheim that to exclude one is denying the very essence of musical theatre. Stephen Sondheim is my idol, I respect that man with all of my being and to see someone say they hate his work and then compare it to the work of Stephen Schwartz, a completely different composer in every musical theatre sense is nonsense.
You have a lot to learn before you earn the right to post on this message board. You have a lot to learn before you can analyze Stephen Sondheims music. You have a lot to learn before you appreciate that music. Maybe Into The Woods wasn't the right show for you just yet. You need to expand your horizons by challenging you ear, your mind, your thoughts with more and more complex music. Wicked is great but it's not sophisticated or technically brilliant or as beautiful as so much other work out there.
Find something else and expand your collection and your mind and if you feel differently about Sondheim then fantastic. If you don't then oh well. The first time I listened to Sweeney Todd I couldn't stand it, but I returned to it months later and discovered the true genius and I've been studying it since. I'm not saying that you don't discover something new about Wicked everyday but you certainly don't hear the same show twice when you experience Sondheim.
Open you mind. Open your heart. Release your soul and experience theatre for all it is:

great post someofallthings!!
*applauds*
You get 10 points for that one, Sumofallthings.
keggss23: I'm sorry, but if one looks at the cover quickly, like they are flipping through ones in a store, and one only sees the name Stephen, some people (like me) might assume it is one of them when it is actually the other. And I'm glad that people can see where I'm coming from.
BroadwayBettini2: I'm glad that you respect my opinion. And it's ok that you don't agree with me. And I never knew that Sondheim wrote it for Peters. Interesting. And I must admit that I'm surprised that you are so calm, you being a huge fan. Other huge fans of Peters would seriously bite my head off.
Which I think that you are doing to 610. if you can accept that I have a different opinion than you with Peters, can you accept that 610 has a differnet opinion with ITW? Plus, she syas that she will see it.
Thank you Sumofallthings. That was said absolutly perfectly. I was going to write more, but now feel I don't have to.

That was beautifully written Sum, thank you.

WIkkkED RuLz!!!!!
Please. Look, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Ignorance, though, is not a form of opinion. I don't blame 610 for not having the knowledge or understanding of what Sondheim accomplished. S/he is willing to try again, and hopefully s/he will have an epiphany (though hopefully one NOT like Sweeney's...)
We also have to look at it this way: if you grew up (however old the original poster is) with the current bout of pop music ALWAYS in your ear, then Wicked is simply GOING to sound more familiar than Into the Wods, which, let's be honest, doesn't sound like anything that would be familiar to someone who hasn't heard - well - other Sondheim. I loved musicals since I was eight, so ITW wasn't so jarring to me when I discovered it at about the age of evelen.
What really concerns me about the original post, assuming it's not a parody or desperate cry for attention, is that the poster missed the humor that's apparent even on the CD. Hello, Little Girl, Goodbye Old Friend and the two Agony songs are all very funny...
Dre- I would never bite anyone's head off about Peters. She's a very unique singer, so I see why people don't like her singing. That's why I respect your oppinion for the sheer fact you have an oppinion rather than being ignorant to the subject matter. :)

I will always remember the sound of Peters when she sung Children Will Listen.
That's all I gotta say.
very well said, sum!
BroadwayBettini2: thank you. i appreciate that. But remember, 610 said that s/he will look over ITW again. And that s/he is new to the broadway thing. so, let her/him have her/his opinion now. it's not that ignorant really, saying that you don't like ITW but love Wicked.
Hey, at least s/he listened to it and said afterwards, that s/he didn;t like it. s/he could have just said that s/he didn;t like it without listening to the whole thing, or just hearing one song and hating the whole thing from just that one song.
Dre-
To save you the trouble of writing s/he everytime you refer to someone, if you feel uncomfortable by addressing them with an assumed gender, you can always use they.
ok, thanks. will do.
Dre_ you should probably tell other people that for the reason, that I was one of the people that was the least angry about it. More people where making fun than I. I just took offence because Elphaba said that the rap was stupid, and yet she didn't know why there was a rap there. And yeah she may be new to musical theater, but really you shouldn't post things here if you have no idea what thier about. I played the witch, so I feel bad about someone saying I part I loved to do every night was stupid.
I got to offended, and now I really don't care about whether someone likes it or not, because I realized that the're young and have a long time to really discover what musical theater is.
great! thanks so much for understanding. i really don;t know them, but I try and help people out when i see that people are ganging up (not that you were really).
k, one person down. few more to go. lol.
I do not value 610's opinions because she called someone on this board a "communist" for being Korean. I will never forget that, because I think that is an ignorant statement and something that is rude and disrespectful. I don't think it's something to be taken lightly, especially because 610 is seemingly uneducated in history anyway.
In regards to learning about musicals: I don't post every time I listen to a recording I've never listened to before, and neither does every single person on this board.... so why should 610? Can you imagine if every single person who listened to a Broadway recording they hadn't before posted about it? I think it's ridiculous that you are trying to defend elphaba610, because she lacks any worthwhile opinions. After listening to ITW, she came directly to this board to bash it... She didn't listen to ITW because 610 wanted to become more educated in musical theatre, but because 610 thought that the musical was written by Schwartz, like Wicked.
If you are a Wicked fan, then that's fine... we have plenty on this board, whether some will admit to it or not. But I just think it was ridiculous that 610 posted about 15 threads at the same time all pertaining to Wicked... whether it was legit or just to piss everyone off... that I don't know.
If I was allowed to vote [which I realize that I'm not], then I would kick 610 off of these boards for the comments she made one of the first days she was here. Think about those types of things before you go defending 610... it's not knowledge of Broadway musicals 610 seeks, but to be a Wicked fan. Wicked fans should be allowed to post a thread when they feel it's something important to share, like a review or some new clip... ect, but the manner 610 did this was most disgraceful.
