Congratulations to Sharon Kramer- winner of fANADu t-shirt contest!

The winning design:


Xanadu has found its winner for the "Share Your Xanadu T Shirt Design Contest". Sharon Kramer's t-shirt design was hand-picked among 50 submissions by the cast of Xanadu on Broadway. Her t-shirt willbe printed as a limited edition and sold to the public at the Helen Hayes Theater next to signage recognizing her as the designer.

Kramer, a retired banker living in Floral Park, NY, is a regular Broadway theatergoer. "My favorite pastime is going to Broadway shows." She saw Xanadu in the 2nd preview of its Broadway run and fell in love with the popular show. "I have seen Xanadu 13 times and I have tickets to see it again in May. I have brought my nieces, nephew, and several friends to see it. It's one of those great shows that you can see many times and it still feels fresh." When she found out about her winning design,Kramer was ecstatic. "I LOVE Xanadu and Xanadu merchandise. I am thrilled beyond words to have something I helped create be part of the Xanadu merchandise."

Her "comedy in a bag" t-shirt design, which will be unveiled at the theater, refers to the moment in Douglas Carter Beane's story when the struggling artist Sonny Malone (Cheyenne Jackson) approaches the real estate mogul, Danny McGuire (Tony Roberts) about renting one of hisproperties. When Roberts discovers Jackson's character doesn't have much to offer in compensation, the meeting takes a sour turn. Ms. Kramer offered, "The idea came to me quickly. One of my favorite lines in the show is 'say the free part again, because that's just comedy in a bag'. It just cracks me upeach time Tony Roberts delivers that line."

I thought there were better entries and ones that would be more universally understood. Unless you've seen the show, you wouldn't a) know the line and b) have any idea what those images are.

I've seen the show multiple times, and I didn't know the line, and I don't understand the image.

I hope by "limited edition" they mean that only 25 will be made and they'll be gotten rid of in one day.

On the contrary-

If you go to the Xanadu website, they have a bunch you can look at in the contest area. As I said - some looked really intriguing..

I *HATE* the winner. Did they choose it at random? I mean it's REALLY awful. There were not just one, two, nor three, but DOZENS of better choices.

There were some gorgeous and inventive designs...My top four favorites are: 1. Ariel Messeca's "I Am A Fanadu"
2. Laureen Klapka's "XanaDude"
3. M. Nora Brooker "I Am A Fanadu"
4. Marlene Brooker "Time To Fanadu"

I'm sorry, but the winning entry is kind of boring, to be quite honest. What were they thinking?? from RC in Austin, Texas

Yeah, I think it's kind of clever and a cool idea, but the image just doesn't make me say "oh my gosh that'd look great on a t-shirt." Interesting choice to say the least.
