The great ones were NOISES OFF, RUMOURS, LOST IN YONKERS, LEND ME A TENOR, SEE HOW THEY RUN, PETER PAN, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN
The crap were: THE MIRACLE WORKER, NO, NO NANETTE, THE SOUND OF MUCOUS and OUR TOWN (I've directed three productions of the play. This was the worst)

I too just saw a student production of FOOTLOOSE that was very very good.
That said there are some shows I do NOT want to see High Schoolers tackle. Most Sondheim shows come under this heading...a student production of PASSION...I shudder to think what would happen in Act One Scene One!
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Yeah; my school really isn't into the fluffy fru-fru's, but it was a great production.
