Ray, she's old enough to play Blanche now (Amanda too, for that matter). The character of Blanche is not that old, she's only in her thirties. Murphy is in her mid 40's. And it would be an interesting casting choice, I agree.

FWIW, Michael Ball was offered the Phantom a couple of times and Lea was offered Belle on Broadway. WHY they declined the roles would be a better question

This one's so easy it's sad, how did Orfeh never play Amneris and/or Maureen?! How did her husband, Andy Karl never play Radames or Rojer? And more recently Link in Hairspray? How did Anika Noni Rose never play Aida? I know they're all cast by the same company so that falls under the "things that make you go Hmmm", catergory.

And just to correct the poster who said Menzel turned down Evita in London, never happened, she turned down the AUDITION. And that is a fact.

actually christiane WAS available to do Les Miz and auditioned for it at least ONCE..i was at the audition with her and heard her sing I Dreamed a Dream. it was amazing and effortless. the role at that time went to Jacquelyn Piro...not to say that Jacqui didn't deserve to do the role AGAIN...but i think it was a great shame no one got to see christiane as fantine..
sorry i don't pay attention to caps and lower case as much as you'd all like!!!! eeek!!!
