Just curious, if you could all cast one broadway show name your ideal cast for your favorite show just thought it'd be fun.
It's so common for people to post these kind of threads - and it's a little bit relentless, as is the reply I'm about to give. So I feel bad for reinforcing this kind of thing.
BUT, I think Bernadette Peters needs to play Mrs Lovett. Her vulnerability etc.. could bring new life to "Wait".
Also, I'd love to see Mandy Patinkin as Sweeney (If paired with Bernadette). I think his performance would be polarising, between a laughable disastrous mess and a brilliantly terrifying, manic performance. But I can just imagine him performing "Epiphany" and seem truly, truly insane. His crazy falsetto might be ironically funny for some songs like "Johanna". It would be so interesting to hear him sing again with Bernadette, in "My Friends" and "Little Priest" etc.

As for the am i trolling response, no i'm just curious to see peoples ideas, and yes i know that's why i thought we could try to have some combined thread of some sort for every show seemed like a good idea.
It is SO difficult to read your threads. Upper case letters and periods really are your friend.
(I'm really NOT being snarky, but I had to read each of your threads over several times to understand them.)

Hairspray:
It seems funny to me that Christine Ebersole never played Velma Von Tussle. She seems to have a connection to the show. she's on the 2 disc soundtrack for the movie and was at the Final Peformance on Broadway. I think she would have been perfect. I also think Vanessa Williams would be an Amazing Velma. now i know that her being African American raises a few problems with a character like Velma. but race aside she would be perfect! I want to see Patti Labelle Play Motormouth Maybelle. I could also see Sherie Rene Scott playing Velma aswell. Michelle Pfeiffer as well- just to hear her take on 'Velma's Revenge". my favorite song in the musical that was cut!

I know this is a lofty idea but my ideal follies or an age approiate revival in a few years.
Hattie: Faith Prince (Many of you have commented that linda lavin was too 'hip' or 'looked to good to be hattie' and i agree plus prince would just tear down the house with broadway baby really hitting it right on home.)
Phyllis: Sherie rene scott or in about ten years laura benanti (Scott has the skills both vocally and dance wise to pull off phyllis, and her acting in the part would wow the audience.)
Stella Deems: Heather Headley (Headley would convey the neccessary bitterness of the jilted former follies girl with the cut short career, her whos that woman would really wow the audience and she mit bring some people to the theater.)
Ben: Marc Kudisch (Kubisch has the neccessary lower range and would be able to convery the self centered attitude approiatly as well generally singing the **** out of the score.)
Emily Whitman: Megan mullally (I don't know if she would accept a small role as this but given her voices lack of extreme strength she couldn't handle a bigger role. But she has done more dance heavy shows and could handle this part, plus her voice would fit perfectly in the part.)
Buddy: In ten or twenty years christopher fitzgerlad, but for right now i think the pick would be norbert leo butz.
Sally: (The hardest role to cast) For now my vote goes to marin mazzie who has proved she is a great actress and could handle the singing and acting called for. In a future revival ten or twenty years from now leann larkin.
Carlotta: How about donna murphy i know she's not as famous as most of the women who've gotten to sing the song but she would knock it out of the park and still play a convincing carlotta, who isn't so old it's laughable to hear about her twenty year old boyfriend. And people wanting and getting 'the works' from. Another idea Linda Eder anyone?

I would love for Marin to play Sally. I love her performance of "Losing My Mind" from Sondheim: The Birthday Concert.
