Wow that was three years ago. I actually like Mandy Patinkin...I wonder why I didn't like his voice at the time?

I can't stand Daphne Rubin Vega's voice, especially on the Rent cd. Harvey Fierstein usually annoys me. I hated his voice in Fiddler, but I actually like it for Hairspray. I think it works better with that role. Matthew Broderick's voice can also be pretty annoying at times.

I will go with Julia Murney. I saw her as Elphaba and it wasn't really irritating, but it annoyed me when she started belting higher notes. It sounded as if the tone of her voice got lower and she sung higher...if that makes sense.
As for Daphne, I will kinda disagree. I think her voice works with Mimi. Otherwise, ew ew ew.

I dont like Roger Bart's voice in Young Frankenstein. Its too bright for me. I havn't really listened to that much of him besides that so ill say with that alone it is. Kerry Butler kind of irritates me too sometimes, i just wish sometimes her notes would slightly darker. i have a problem with people who sound like they are an 8 yr old untrained singers, when they have a naturally good voice.

Oooh, Harvey Fierstein is another good one. Forgot about him.
Why all the Christine Andreas hate!?
And I like Sarah Brightman's voice :) (HAHA She's the highest selling soprano in the world --and won't let you forget it!)
I also forgot about Harvey Fierstein! Though I like her as Mimi, I would also say Daphne Rubin Vega.

Her vibrato. Fast and wide vibrato like hers can be fine, but you have to control it well enough. She doesn't.
Plus her timbre just drives me crazy for some reason.

Rex Smith. That bastard has just the most annoying vocal chords on the planet.
Ah to an extent I agree with you on Rex Smith. I almost feel as if he's not dark enough to be a villian, yet not light enough to be the good-guy. But it doesn't matter, after a while it gets irritating!

not necessarily the voice...but is anyone else madly irritated by laura bell bundy's vowel placements??? it irks me to no end
for me, NO ONE beats Raul Esparza. With the exception of Chitty, I refused/refuse to see shows with him in them.

Ethel Merman's voice is extremely annoying to me.
Cheno's speaking voice.

"Ethel Merman was a brilliant actress, possibly the best Broadway's ever seen"
Is this a serious statement?

dinglehopper, I love Julia Murney but do agree with the tone thing; she tends to "bite down" when she belts higher. I've noticed that. It doesn't bother me, but does make me wonder if that makes hitting the notes any easier or more difficult.
Alice Ripley's voice doesn't bother me, though it does (as I've stated before) worry me. And she has some strange vowel placement as well. And Mary Louise Wilson's rolling Rs, regardless of character.
Generally not favored by my ears? Daphne Rubin-Vega, Shoshana Bean (when she's riffing the integrity out of a song; her legit and non-riff singing is lovely), Megan Sikora.
Patti LuPone (not all of the time...but on ocassion)
Sarah Brightman
Daphne Rubin Vega
Kerry Butler (she's just a little too nasal for me. i still love her though!)
Carol Channing
Yes, even if it's a non musical.
The thread isnt titled singing voices...just says voices. And that man's speaking voice drives me crazy...and singing...well, lets just not go there. I'd rather not vomit tonight.

Adam Pascal, at least in Aida. And I'm not a fan of nathan lane's either.
