I would just so you get familiar with the story and know what to expect. I didn't have to know the movie to see Newsies though

Though I find it hard to believe you've gone all this time without watching Frozen, no, you should be fine. An adaptation should be presented in a way that the viewer doesn't need to know about the source material to understand the story and enjoy the work on it's own.

Like I said I didn't see the original 1992 Newsies but I loved the filmed Fathom Events performance of Newsies

there are a bunch of people, myself included, that have never seen the movie. I’ve seen like 20-30 mins of it but I always fall asleep.

^ Fell asleep after Let It Go? That's surprising.

If you get a chance to watch the whole movie, don't believe everything you hear about Frozen. It's not a Disney masterpiece. But it's stunningly animated, unexpectedly heartfelt, musically spectacular and occasionally funny.

If there is any piece of entertainment that you NEED to see a former medium in order to "get it", then it's a failure of the new piece.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Not at all. In fact, if I were you, I would now avoid the movie at all costs to see the musical "clean". You'll be able to give one of the few honest reviews, since the musical have to be good on its own to prove itself to you.

The movie will always be there after you see the show. I'm not crazy about it and you're not really missing much if you've listened to Let It Go.

I think you should see Frozen before you see the musical. First of all it's a great movie. Second of all, from what I've heard about the Frozen musical, you might want to see the movie to see why this became such a hit.

No I'm talking about the poor word-of-mouth about the musical. I'm saying he should see the movie Frozen to see why kids love this movie so much and it became a mega-hit.

^I totally knew what you meant.

Remember: in this case - word of mouth isn't going to matter.   It will be at capacity for YEARS.   It'll not only break even but a nice return as well.

Frozen musical would be successful and sell out even if they had a literally empty stage and idina Menzel running around in costume belting let it go for 2 hours straight. As long as the Marquee mentioned Frozen and was Disney endorsed tickets would sell.

A good adaptation will stand alone without audiences having to know the source material. That being said, it's a 2 hour movie, so it's not that time consuming to watch.
