if you have never seen the movie? a few people have told me that the musical is more of a satire of the movie than a musical adaptation. but the movie came out a bit before my time, and it was supposed to be God awful. still i like the cast of Xanadu and have heard good things. should i see it?
It's definitely worth it! If you like having fun when you see a show go see it! Yes, it is a satire of the movie, but I never saw the movie and I still got it. You don't need to see the movie.
sure why not. I have not seen it and plan on seeing it when i go to new york in april.
i am one of the very very few who absolutely LOVED the movie... it is one of my all time favorites -- right up there with Grease 2 and Showgirls. They are the camp campiest!
I asked myself this today when I was going to rush... but then fell back asleep

I have never seen the movie, knew nothing of the music, and saw it last month. I LOVED it!! Its so much fun, doesnt take itself seriously (unlike Legally Blonde). Its 90 mins of pure fun, I came out smiling and out of the 6 shows I saw in NYC, this was 2nd only to curtains as the best that I saw.
The cast are brilliant, and failing everything else, it has Cheyenne in tiny shorts and a vest.
I've seen it quite a few times and never saw the film. LOVE the show!!!!
I saw the show several times before I saw the movie... And I really which I hadn't bothered with the movie at all.
Yes. See it. Fun. Silly. Stupid. Fun. Fun. Fun.
Xanadu is an incredibly good time at the theatre. If at all interested, yes, definitely see it!

Like most other people, I loved it. But if for nothing else watch it for Cheyenne Jackson's theighs which are quite well defined even from the mezz.

I've seen it 8 times and will probably see it 8 more. In over 50 years of attending the Broadway theatre, I'll go on record that it is one of the most FUN shows ever. Do yourself a big favor and have the time of your life!!!!
OMG PLEEAAASEE see this show. it is a freakin blast. i never saw the movie, and i saw it twice in one weekend. I cant wait to see it again. it is the most fun, i wish there was an act2
I agree, Xanadu is amazingly fun. I had never seen the movie and still had a blast. There were some people in the theater who said that its better once you see the movie and then the show. THey said that there were some hidden messages, but when I saw the movie and then the show again I did not see any "hidden messages" or jokes.
One of the best times you will have in the theater.
I just bought 2 on-stage tickets for the 2pm show on Sat. April 5th. Me and a friend will be in NYC that weekend, and we a going on a little bit of a Broadway Binge. We will be seeing Xanadu, Spring Awakening, and Sunday In The Park With George. I am sooo excited!!!

Xanadu is the single greatest achievement in the history of the Theatre. No, correction, THE HISTORY OF TH WORLD. There is nothing greater ever accomplished by man. Pennicillin, the Great Pyramids, Hoover Dam- al crap compared witht he wonder that is XANADU. And if you dare to say otherwise you will wish you were dead.
Wow Joe, that's deep. We all know you hate it. So do I. It is completly tasteless.

It's definitely worth seeing....very entertaining and lots of fun. I saw it twice, once sitting on the stage and the second time in the audience. They're equally satisfying from a different perspective.
I will be able to look at Cheyenne's rear for 90 minutes
lakezurich, I'll be right behind you. I am spending my Spring Break going to NYC to see Xanadu, Little Mermaid, and Young Frankenstein,
April 8-11.
I just wish I had enough time off from work, and enough money to see more shows. I also really want to see Gypsy, ITH, Young Frankenstein, Avenue Q, Curtains, and A Catered Affair
I hear ya! Credit cards are helping me!

OK, you've heared from those who have seen it umpteen times, best thing ever..., coming from this casual fan: If you just want a fun show, not too cerebral, and a great cast, Xanadu fits the bill!
I didn't see the movie at all and i had an AMAZING time at Xanadu. I strongly suggest you go see it.
I had not seen the movie, saw the show, laughed my ass off, and watched the movie on the plane ride home.
