jennifer hope wills replacing kelli ohara in piazza???

not that i want to see kelli leaving the show anytime soon...but if i had to choose another broadway star to replace her...i think jennifer would be my pick. anyone agrees?

She would be great, from what I've heard of her voice. There's really no point because the show is a limited run closing in January. I think Matthew Morrison will be the only one to leave. I only think that because it has already been announced.

It would be great if this show would run longer and we could see different interpretations of the great roles. That said, I consider this cast to be the most all-around PERFECT currently on Broadway.

Oh geez...

Jennifer is great. I saw her in Jekyll and Hyde a couple of years ago at the Carousel Dinner Theatre in Akron, OH.

Can't imagine Celia would leave an open-ended run in a show that's going to stick around at least another year for a show closing in January.
That said, I know pretty much for a fact that Kelli's not leaving the show before it closes.

I think that Ms. Wills would be terrific in both Piazza and Wicked but feel that Piazza would really show off her talents the best...on her website it says that she has an opera degree from Indiana University. I think she also opened this week as Julie in Carousel in Pittsburgh. I would love to see her on stage again.

If Kelli was leaving, which she's not, I doubt they'd consider bringing in Celia Keenan-Bolger to replace her, as Celia was let go from the production before it arrived in NY.

But Jennifer Hope Wills has a lovely voice and has the right look for the part, and I think she'd make a great Clara.

Hahahahahaha Sluggy! Linda's a little young, but if wigs can age Vicki Clark (who has alwayd looked ageless to me!), they can age Linda. But Vicki's staying on through the end as well, thank goodness.

If you want to see Jen on stage right now, go to the Pittsburgh CLO before the 31st. She is playing Julie Jordan in Carousel. Also from Sept. 6th thru Oct. 23 she will be playing Sharon in Finian's Rainbow at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philly.
And here is to hoping she's back on a Broadway stage soon!

Yes, Celia played Clara in Chicago. I have heard that she was absolutely wonderful. But there is dissent within Piazza fans as to whether Celia or Kelli was better: some think that Celia played the role too childishly, whereas others think Kelli didn't play it childishly enough.

bump...came across this and it now seems like a very relevant topic of conversation. Any other ideas? I personally love the idea of Ms. Wills. Someone on another thread also mentioned Celia Keenan-Bolger or Jennifer Hughes. I know these types of conversations mean nothing in the long run but it is always fun to speculate.

Why would they cast Celia when they didn't hire her for the Broadway run to begin with? She clearly doesn't fit the production's new vision of the character.

I'm sorry, I can't stand the girl's voice. I just saw her twice over the last four months, As Julie Jordan in Pittsburgh CLO's "Carousel", and as Sharon in Walnut Street Theater's "Finian's Rainbow" in Philly.

She has her moments in both, but her upper register in both shows drove me crazy. I also don't care for her acting much. I would pick Jennifer Westfeldt to replace O'Hara.

WHAT? Westfeldt could NOT handle the coloratura parts in WONDERFUL TOWN.

And Hope Wills handled it just fine, she is a real coloratura. And received GREAT reviews for her Eileen in Wonderful Town. She is very talented.

Well, I'm only going off what I've seen. and I haven't listened to the sedond Wonderful Town recording.

But who knows, Walnut Street Theater is apparently notorious for doing cheesily-staged musicals in Philly and CLO productions are done at a speed comparable to that of Encores!, so she could have gotten better given more time to settle into the role.

Eh.

No one'll ever top O'Hara in my book, anyways.

I agree...it will be very hard for anyone to top Kelli O'Hara in this role in my book as well. She was absolutely radiant. I do hope you will give Ms. Wills another chance though. She was spectacular in "Wonderful Town" and "Beauty and the Beast". I can't comment on the two shows you saw since I didn't see them myself but I can't really imagine anyone really nailing the difficult character of Julie Jordan in a one week rehearsal period. I have never been that impressed with CLO shows myself. Anyway...everyone certainly has a right to their own opinions. It is going to be a difficult task to replace Ms. O'Hara indeed.
