post a rant. one thing you can not stand about a certain show or actor w/e it doesnt matter...heres the catch, you cant attack anyone for what they say. it is entirely your opinion and no one is to try to reason with it.

once people start posting ill post my rant too.

I agree with you. That's partly why I love Sutton Foster. Because not every role of hers is the same.

I hate people who only like happy, simple shows. When I saw Into the Woods (high school), half of the adults came out saying "I don't get it. They should have chosen a different show. It was so sad!"

I don't think actors should be criticized for being "the same" in everything. An actor's job is to truthfully portray the character in the play, not to impress people with his ability to change himself. My theory on acting is that you can't really play anyone but yourself--that is, yourself as that character. Sure, it's fun to watch people like Johnny Depp be so "different" in every role, but that's not the defintiion of good acting. It's exciting, but that kind of ability is rare and not completely necessary for good acting. For example, what about Robert De Niro? Jack Nicholson? Julia Roberts? (She gets on my nerves, but still). These people are all regarded as great actors, yet you could argue that they're all the same in every role.

My Fair Lady--I agree with you. People who only like "happy" shows are impossible to talk to about theater! Frothy entertainment is like ice cream--it's nice, but having too much isn't good for you.

And to whoever mentioned it--Melanie Brown got over the title billing in "Rent"? That's ridiculous. She was a SPICE GIRL, people!

Oh...here goes.

I HATE how there were NINE (ELEVEN if you count Michael O Donnell and Jonny Peterson) freaking Emcee's in Cabaret and towards the end of the show it seemed like they were desperate to pull in some 80's icons to take on the roles when they could have used someone from the ensemble (who in my opinion, made that show spectacular-can we say Entr'Acte). And I HATE even more, how when the audience would come to see the show just for someone like John Stamos, and say how wonderful he was blah blah blah, and then laugh at all the wrong parts like when the Emcee walks out in the dress to sing I Don't Care Much. But, most of all, I hate it when people think these "actors" were the best thing to hit Broadway. Sorry, it just made me sick.

As a whole, I have to say the women were really quite good. I don't know how some of them did it, but I came out pleasantly surprised with all of the ladies I saw as Sally Bowles with one exception being Deborah Gibson.

Yeah, I'm done know.

I hate how a lot of people who post on this board think that Broadway started with "Rent" or with "Wicked". Whenever there is "a greatest ever this" or "a best ever that" thread, all of a sudden people who have been in two or three shows are suddenly elevated the best performers who have ever performed on the Broadway stage. Some people post these things with such authority and have absolutely no idea of the history of Broadway and the contributions that many people have made. The real sad thing is that they seem as if they don't to want to be bothered to find out.

I hate people who think there has only ever been one composer of note in the history of the musical, or, even worse, only one musical. Whether this means Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jonathan Larson, or even Stephen Sondheim. Yes, they all have their merits, some moreso than others, but come on, people. There are so many wonderful creators of musical theater. Broaden your horizons.

I hate when people can't get over the "good old days." When people always refer back to the incredible talent that used to exist, and that its such a shame that such talented performers don't exist anymore. Things change, just because it is contemporary and not your style does not mean it is not admirable work. I find it very aggravating when people flame the work of an actor (particularly a certain tony award-winning actress) that focuses more on realism than what we typicllly consider good musical theatre acting, which I feel can be very over-blown and unrealistic much of the time.

And I cannot stand when looks win fans over talent. Clearly, from reading the board, its not too unusual for Broadway fans to pick say...Gavin Creel over Christian Borle because of looks. It's a shame that superior talent goes almost unrecognized because of such fangirlism.

I hate when people bash Rent and say that Rent fans need to realize that there are other musicals out there. We do realize that. We know about other musicals. We also realize Rent isn't the greatest musical out there. We just recognize that it is a good musical, and we like it for what it is. And me liking Rent doesn't mean my opinion counts any less than yours.

I hate talking to crazy women by the "soundtracks" section in Barnes & Noble trying to convice me that Mama Mia! is the best thing to hit Broadway. And that when I respond "Why should I pay $100 to see a show of Abba songs when I have the CD" or "I prefer shows with substance" that she keeps going on and on about how good the plot is.
