It's A Wonderful Life" has at least two musical versions that are available for productions and neither work. It just does not translate to the stage.

The Count of Monte Cristo and It's A Wonderful Life are both musicals already.
An American in Paris was adapted by Ken Ludwig, and is premiering with Harry Groener, Erin Dilly, Jeffry Denman, and others in Houston.
How about Pulp Fiction? Haha! I'm halfway kidding. I only thought about it because of the Uma Thurman and John Travolta dance at the bar. And it was the theme for my college's marching band show last season too. Other than that, it would probably not work at all. Plus, I really don't know how they would use the theme song, which is totally important to the movie.

Who is doing "Count of Monte Cristo"...? I didn't know they had it up already. It's a Wonderful Life was just a shot, din't know they had it, too. I've yet to hear of it.
I suppose, though, that if the right script and music was undertaken by someone very inspired and talented to do it, it might just work...maybe.
Is American in Paris any good for Broadway?
Requiem for a Dream with a LaChiusa score
Ferris Bueller's Day Off with a David Yazbek score
Enchanted is in the work right?
Rosemary's Baby... With the great 11th hour song "His Father's Eyes!"
I don't believe anyone is working on recreating Enchanted for the stage. I think so many people have mentioned wanting to see it on stage in various threads throughout the board that posters start to think that they "seem to remember hearing something about Enchanted being brought to Broadway". But, in actuality, it was just wishful thinking on the board.
And Casablanca as a musical? That one I really can't see. For starters I don't know if anyone but Bogart could play Rick. And so much of the greatness of the film is the way it's shot. I just don't think it'll transfer well.

I think The Sorrow and the Pity would make a swell musical.
"Dogville". in the style of "legally Blonde".
Heavyweights
Airplane!
Revenge of the Nerds
Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead
School of Rock
Peker (I eman c'mon-there would have to be a number about tea bagging and a song called "Pubic Hair Causes Crime!"

btw...has anyone actually seen "Blood Drips Heavily on Newsies Square"? I've seen screen caps but never the "film".
"Blood Drips..." is hysterical. It's so random and silly.
I think most of what I've thought of has been said, but I'm surprised no one has said Moulin Rouge yet. That's usually one of the first ones to get thrown out there in these discussions. The licensing would probably be an absolute nightmare, though.

First of all
We’ve had this thread before
but going on
In the previous thread I mentioned Pleasantville and I still think it’s a brilliant idea for a musical. I’d also really like to see a musical version of An Affair To Remember, possibly with a Guettel score, I think he has the right combination of classic romanticism combined with a modern sound to really make the show work. The role of the Aunt would be great for Angela Lansbury. As far as The Princess Bride goes if I remember correctly I don’t think they could get the rights or they could only get the rights if William Goldman co-wrote it with Guettel or something like that. Anyway an agreement couldn’t be reached and the project got shelved.

TOT, a few guys sent me a script and demo recording of their "Monte Cristo" musical last year.
According to them, there was a reading of it at a local arts center in California somewhere.
It reminded me of some old baroque piece with gothic chants. Just all very very weird. And they spoke in "old York" language... it just came off as a drunk Shakespeare writing the script.
first of all;
"Connie and Carla
Waiting for Guffman
August Rush
Superstar "
you are a genius. i love those movies, and Connie and Carla would be onderful, although maybe a bit too like priscilla. waiting for guffman would be lovely.
for me;
yes to newsies, mean girls and/or clueless, princess bride suggestions.
as for me, i always thought mel brooks next one after producers should have been Robin Hood- Men in Tights. already some great songs, and it already feels like a lovely musical right there.
still waiting for a great 'its a wonderful life' musical
life of brian - i know, i know, its spamalot 2, but there is so much potential to be a great JCS parody
what do we think about little miss sunshine? a kind of anti-annie/ruthless.
wouldn't it be just beyond fabulous if you could have a kind of his dark materials/julie taymor- esque Labyrinth? i lurve this movie!!!!
Everytime this comes up I always recall this great made for tv movie that I fell totally in love with ~~
It was version of Pollyanna called POLLY
it starred Keisha Knight Pullam and Phylicia Rashad. It was so great! I loved that Movie. It was really well done too.

I had always dreamed of a musical version of THE GLASS MENAGERIE to be called MENAGERIE!
Ethel Merman as a Amanda, Carol Channing as Laura, Robert Preston as Tom, Alfred Drake as the Gentleman Caller.
During the Act Two Dream Ballet, twenty girls in leg braces would come out singing "Clump Your Troubles Away."
Oh, what I just posted is SOOOOOOOO wrong.
Far From Heaven. This could be done campy in the vein of Did Mommie Die, or it could be done straight focusing on the drama. Someone could write some great ballads for this show. I'm thinking something like Grey gardens, with less laughs.
I've always wanted to see Drop Dead Gorgeous.
