I know the common opinion tends to be how horrible and unnecessary most movies turned musicals turn out to be to the point of asking so why bother making them?
but are there any movies you would enjoy seeing turned into a musical stage show?
I was thinking maybe Coyote Ugly if composed by the write people and staged correctly. It could definitely become the next big "Girl Power" musical to hit Broadway.
Another thought was if Pleasentville were to be musical-ified. I'm not sure how the effects could be done, but I don't doubt that they could be. But i think some really great work could come out of that!
I'd love to see Clueless or Enchanted. Coyote Ugly would be nice too
"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." Sherie Rene Scott
"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."
-Nellie McKay on the 2006 Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, in which she played Polly Peachum
With the right people I would imagine practically any film could be musicalized and actually be good. Look at Xanadu. Touted by many as one of the worst movies ever made and it's garnered quite a following on Broadway. Mostly because the right people were involved. If another writer/producer had decided to make Xanadu into a Broadway musical it might not work as well as it does.
A film I think might work on Broadway, with the right people, is Princess Bride.

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
How about Captain Blood, The Adventures of Robin Hood, or any number of Errol Flynn films?

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?
Broadway Shows I've Seen: Hairspray, Chicago, Little Shop of Horrors (2003), The Wedding Singer, Spamalot, Riverdance, Rent, Beauty and the Beast, Spring Awakening, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Phantom of the Opera, Sweet Charity (revival), Drowsy Chaperone, The Lion King, Dreamgirls(2010 Tour).
Also, there needs to be more Horror Musicals. Considering the look and sound its lighting and score gave it, Suspiria seems like a natural fit for the stage.
I just realized that ballet is an important plot point in both of those movies, so I think the best plan is just to combine the two. Just imagine how much more power "I am the best goddamn dancer in the American Ballet Academy. Who the hell are you?" would have if it were being sung to an evil murderous witch.
in a seperate thread, I think the majority of us agreed that it just wouldn't work on stage.
you would lose the most important part of the movie if it transferred to the stage... the visual effects and designs. no way you can replicate all of that stuff on the stage
Definitely agree on Enchanted (in my head Haven Burton would be the perfect Giselle) I also would love to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding as a musical, I think its kinda already written in the vein of one in a way-- I just feel like it would translate so well to stage.
