one more question...john gallagher or john groff?

just wondering...
since i'm in love with the recording of Spring Awakening,
if u had to pick your favorite performance r u a groff person or a gallagher person?

can I say both? :P

honestly, I think they're both SO SO incredibly talented. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to say that acting wise John Gallagher is stronger, but I dont know... Groff is really, REALLY close behind for me. The thing is, not to say by ANY means that Moritz is an easy role to play (its actually the opposite- I can imagine that if its NOT done really well it could be kind of horrible), but I do think that, when Moritz and Melchior are both played really really equally well (which they are by those two imo), a lot of people are going to naturally feel a little more for Moritz. Its just the nature of that he's the more tortured of the two, and I think most people can relate to him more. So its really hard to judge who I think is stronger acting wise because my feelings for the characters kind of get in the way. It'd be interesting to see them like.. switch roles for a day and see how they do! haha. But yeah, I'm really just about equal between them. And they can both sing the hell out of every single song. Though.. I do admit that Groff's voice makes me mealt just a little bit more <3 He's one of those guys I label with an "orgasmically gorgeous voice" (others who've earned this label by me are Norbert Leo Butz, Gavin Creel, and Raul Esparza *g*)

(crush wise I lean more towards Jon Groff naturally, but Johnny is like THE sweetest most awesome person ever at the stagedoor and he's the kind of person where I'd LOVE to be his friend! Although, Groff's also RIDICULOUSLY sweet as well.. so... hehe. Honestly, I think they'd both talk to each group of people at the SD for like...15 minutes or more)

yay i love questions like these...

well, having seen both of them perform and having met both of them afterwards [yes i know i am the luckiest girl alive]

i still have to say i am in love with johnny gallagher. i always was, always will be. but i was before spring awakening. so i'm a little biased.. however; jonathan groff has an absolutely beautiful voice, seriously.. it's so pure.. oh baby! haha.. and he is the sweetest guy! he was outside with us for a long time.. even though he was the last one to come outside. such a sweetheart, he gave me the biggest hug ever and told me i was "the best" weeeee..

and johnny gallagher, ugh he is just the most kind guy i have ever met. he talked to my friend and i for at least 15 minutes. it was so sweet, and when we were talking to him about the show, he's like "yeah yeah, you guys really get it!" and we're like.. ahhh yes we do! haha.. but i just love the character of moritz and johnny g's portrayal of him is just outstanding, really.. and i told him i was rooting for him for the tony all the way. and he blushed and was all sweet. also a very good hugger. oh johnathan gallagher, how i love him!

but truth be told, having met the entire cast, they are just the sweetest bunch of people.. really. definitely by far the nicest and most giving cast i have ever met. it really was a treat. and i am going back march 4th.. so hopefully i will get the chance to see them again! =D

John Gallagher Jr. - hands down! Going into the show, I was all about the Groff. :) But after seeing the show, I am totally in love with John Gallagher. I loved his character and he was so adorable and nice at the stage door. He actually stopped and talked to us. That doesn't happen very often at stage doors. Jonathan Groff is very good and very kind as well, but I just love John Gallagher. :)

I honestly couldn't imagine an understudy for either of them :) I guess... maaaybe for melchior... maybe... but I'd still be like "but he's not Groff." haha. Its just Johnny's performance is so unique, and I think it'd be a huge challenge for anyone playing Moritz after him to find a way to make the role their own- because if they tried to do what he did they'd have to be DARN good to even come close to comparing. Groffs Melchior is just... someone who's really good could probably tackle it- but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be very hard

every time i see this thread i get a little giddy.

their performances were just so incredible, expecially john gallagher. he just blows me away, and it's amazing because when you actually talk to him you see that isn't the least bit of that character at all.. makes you realize what a taxing and impressive role he doing a fabulous job of portraying. not that the other actors are their roles, don't get me wrong.. but for johnny g. it's just especially impressive to me.

though i don't think it's fair to say who is better, they are all so different, but for me, the role of moritz is just more poignant and reaches out and grabs me more. so i still go with john gallagher, jr. as my favorite. he always was too.
love that guy. though jonathan groff is still amazingly talented, like i said, moritz just hit me more.

the entire spring awakening cast has something incredible going for them. they are such a joy to watch, i can't get enough of it. ! <3

YES! I swear, he is like the polar opposite of Moritz! in person he's so incredibly smiley and warm and happy-seeming, and I love it :P he walked out and I was like "OMG he's so adorable!!" because I just wasn't expecting it! Its not even in just the way to talks or anything- his whole body language is completely different from Moritz's. So yeah, I agree, it amazes me how well he plays a character that's so very different from how he actually is!

Yeah, I've definitely established that I love them both equally, but that I feel for Moritz more (not that I dont feel terrible for melchior in Those You've Known, cause I absolutely do) but, seperating the performances from the characters, they're both brilliant.
