correction- Gavin Creel.
Thanks for your thoughts. Where did you sit?
To me, the last thing that's a problem with this production is the cast.
Sure Levy belts the hell out of her solo...but it sounds great. And her acting is very good, especially for an underwritten role like Sheila.
Just got home from NYC, Anyone see me? My name got pulled up first for the Lotto on Friday. I already had a ticket but I gave it to a nice couple I met.
Do you think the fire alarm sounds weird because it's a 1960's sound?...it would not be the type of alarm we hear today.
Will Swenson, all over the place? Hard to imagine, I thought he was fabulous in the park.
Why the problem with the finale? Rather goes along with the feeling of the show beautifully.
Thank you crushgroove - I had no idea that was Patina Miller - I'm all the more excited for Sister Act now!

I would have no problem with her belting the hell out of her solo if it sounded good. The problem is, she sounds really screechy. It's not easy to listen to her solos because of it. Also thought her acting was all over the place- one scene she was quiet and reserved, the next she was screaming at people.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it this summer.
But I heard that the first front rows (or maybe just row A) at the Hirschfield are not that good, but I'm not sure if that's true. Does anyone recommend it?

From pictures, the front row looks fine. The stage is high, but there is space between the stage and the front row. I would say go for it.

Is there nudity in the production?
Yes. During the act 1 finale, everyone, with the exception of Claude, disrobes. It's tastefully done, and lit very artistically, but it's there.

i'm going tonight front row i'll give a complete review of the seats lol.
I thought the nudity was a lot more obvious this time around (maybe because they can do more with the lighting in an actual theater than outside at the Delacorte) but it was really well done.

If these actors were truly in character for their roles, there would be no shaving of the pits, and no waxing of the nether regions. It's the late 60's people!
I'm still suprised that NO ONE from the creative team has demanded the "au natural" look. At least from the waste down. I remember it taking me out of the moment both at the park as well as during Equus.
How can you even tell what's down there if there are lights covering it?
I'm waiting for hair to start right now...sitting front row...for anyone worried the stage is to high for front row, front row is PERFECTLY FINE...the stage is a good height. Even for a small person it would be fine.

I think I was just expecting a police siren, so it threw me for a loop for a second.
a few month ago the cast of hair performed for a benefit to raise money for mgc productions...here are some clips!!!

I did the lotto today. Great seats. There are 26 seats and there were 29 people there today.
The show was excellent. I don't know if I liked it more than WSS. I can't compare the two, they are both SO different.
Drunk Chita- Could you post a full review?
Yeah. I will post a somewhat full review. My Playbills are at my Mom's house so I can't look at them to see the cast and stuff.
The theater when you walk in is really cool. There are hand prints all over the place and a cool sheet that hangs down as a curtain with a projection of the moon. About 5 minutes till 2 one of the tribe members came out onstage and sort of did a meditating thing. Not sure if it was like this in the original or not. Also before the show some of the cast was just walking around near the boxes. Very cool atmosphere in the theater, I recommend anyone seeing it to go as the doors open, it was fun just sitting in the theater before hand.
I love the "set" It's not much of a set but it's VERY cool. It's a big brick wall with a few balconies and it has the sun from the poster painted on the back wall. It's very colorful and the lights really show it off. The lights are great, at time they came out onto the audience. It was very cool, great patterns and colors. The band is on the back wall all dressed in hippie costumes. There is also a truck onstage, I think some of the band was in the back of the truck, I couldn't see that part very well.
The cast is really very good. Finally a cast where there is no major weak link. Everyone shines, they all look like they are having a BLAST!
Gavin Creel- I can understand why everyone loves him so far. He really is very good, his voice is fantastic and a great actor. I expect him to get nominated and give the Billy Boys a run for their money.
Will Swenson- I love this guy. He is hilarious and very energetic. His voice is great and he was also a great actor. I loved his introduction to the audience. It seemed improvised and I think part of it was. When he asks some person for change or something in the audience some guy gave him his watch and Will put it down his little "pants" thing.
Sasha Allen- One of the most amazing voices I have heard. She tears up Aquarius and steals the second act with her "White Boys" Every time I heard her sing I got very excited, I hope to see her in something after this.
Cassie Levy- When this girl belts she really belts. When she is doing the more mellow stuff it's a little flat. Her voice is amazing most of the time. There wasn't much to judge by her acting, it wasn't anything special.
Second Act- So I know people think the second act is weak in Hair and I have to agree. It's a little to abstract for me. I think the whole show has a lot of meaning and that is what it so special. But the second act was almost a little too much.
This was my first time seeing a production of Hair ever. So this was a new experience for me, I knew all the music but never saw it. I will definitely go back, it was a lot of fun.
Tonys- So I am one of the few who LOVED WSS. I also loved this. I don't know which one I like better, I may like WSS just a little more. But I can't seem to compare the two because they are so different. It's a different experience. Two separate subjects, different kind of music, different cast, different everything. Both shows will get great reviews. I'm not sure which show the Tony Voters will go with.
Also Karen Olivo was in the audience. From the box I could see her in the orchestra dancing in her seat. She was having a GREAT time, it was adorable. She really is a beautiful girl, I'm a little obsessed.
8.5 out of 10 stars.
Chita- you won today at the matinee? I was the 2nd to last name called. I agree with your review. INCREDIBLE afternoon.
Is this story hard to catch onto if it is your first time ever seeing a production?
