Yes, Les Mis is probably the longest musical I've seen. But I'm of the opinion that a show is only "too long" if there's something wrong with it. If it's good, I don't want it to end.
Long Day's Jouney Into Night, however (though brilliantly-cast), was indeed "long."

Are we counting opera?
Some of those Russian and Wagner ones are REALLY long. Try four and five hours.
After Tchaikovsky's Queen of Spades, over four hours, and very long and dark and Russian, I was satiated in all things Russian for a couple years...

Does Ring Cycle count?

Tarzan.
I am talking about actual time, not root-canal minutes.
I guess any performance that you think qualifies that YOU have actually seen. Has anyone seen "Einstein on the Beach"? 3:20
Isn't there a John Cage church bell piece that is still going on after more than 10 years now?

If you are going to include song cycles you have to tell how many meals you ate during the performance and if you did it with/without catheter.

Time wise it may not be the longest, but Thou Shalt Not sure felt like it, it was interminable.

The first week of previews of Chess in NY, the performances ran 3 1/2 - 4 hours. There were a multitude of tech problems and it was an event when the intermission was cut from 40 to 30 to 20 minutes.

I've seen the video of Nicholas Nickleby. That's pretty damn long. I think it's the longest show to win the Tony for Best Play.

The liner notes for Scarlett say that the play based on "Gone with the Wind" that was written for the Tokyo stage was set in two parts over two nights, 5 hours & 4 hours or 9 hours total.

The longest running ANYTHING i've ever seen, would have to be LES MISERABLES.
I never saw anything longer.
Here's the thing: I never tired after all that.

I saw a school production of "Pajama Game", and now, I love this show greatly, but the first act just dragged on-and-on, we're talking almost 2 hours here for just one act of the show! they messed up a little too much...

Forgive my ignorance, but what was the original run time for LES MISERABLES?

I saw Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar in Madrid and it clocked in at 4 hours 20 minutes by the time the curtain call was finished. Granted, they said a special goodbye to one of the cast members, but that only took 3 or 4 minutes.

Over the years, wasn't there time cut off of Les Mis, like it was originally 3:20 and then dropped to 3 hours? I saw it and remember it being 3.
