Mamie - actually, yes I did. I can't say it was the smartest decision I ever made - or even that the experience was a positive one. But, I did learn a lot, and it has certainly given me a perspective on the world that I wouldn't have had otherwise.

Well, Lea's more of a belter/mezzo than a soprano. I think she'd sing the part of Anita beautifully. And I'd love to see her in a feisty role. She hasn't had one of those yet here in the States.

Semi off-topic ramble on My Fair Lady: In the original Shaw version, Eliza ends up with Freddie, which I think makes just so much more sense. The writer of the musical's book had to make Higgins considerably more sympathetic than he was in the Shaw. Higgins is to old for Eliza, by a long shot.
When confronted with the musical's ending, Shaw wrote that he could not "conceive of a less happy ending to the story of 'Pygmalion' than a love affair between the middle-aged, middle-class professor, a confirmed old bachelor with a mother-fixation, and a flower girl of 18." Go figure.
This is from Geoffrey Block's excellent book, "Enchanted Evenings."

I have this theory that Rachel York would be perfect as Reno Sweeney in 'Anything Goes'. Like, beyond perfect. Yup, and Greg Edelman as Billy(alothough he already played the role at Lincoln Center as a replacement).
