who else here wishes that she would bring back her show or host the tony's again? two years is enough for hugh? don't you think. she's so good to the broadway community and i love her and think she's just so funny. no doubt her show with cyndi lauper will get panned because there are people that don't like her, so it will never even be given a fair shot. but i really do love rosie and wish she'd make a huge comeback. maybe a role in an upcoming movie musical?

she's arrogant and curses like a truck-driver. i really have lost all respect for the woman.
Couldn't argue more. My experiences with her have been the opposite of arrogant...

its funny. the moment a woman starts acting like a man, people hate her. This country is jacked.
Personally, I think rosie is frickin' incredible. Sure she is strong headed, stubborn, and a bit of a diva- who isnt? She has amazing passion and did a LOT of great work.
Unfortunitly, I dont think she could host the Tonys as people have sceewed views on her since Taboo. Give them time, let her bring something else to surface and we'll talk.
Personally, I'm pissed about how the broadway world treated her with Taboo. She did ALOT for broadway... more than anyone else on TV. People should be ashamed.
she did a lot for the rights of gay people...she did a lot for broadway...she rocks! marriage should be for everyone!

Her doing a lot for Broadway doesn't change the fact that the show was flawed...
shes sick.. and rude
PERSONAL REASONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! happy now?

I'm a fan. As a theatre-obsessed kid who couldn't get to NY, her show meant a lot to me. It came on right after I got home from school - great way to recover, hehe.
Loved her Tony broadcasts as I grew to love her show, and admire her on many levels. She had a very painful period after 9/11, and for many of us in NY who watched her daily, she guided us through a very difficult time, when we were angry, hurt, scared, and very reactionary. I refuse to appraise her because she's loud and demanding and complicated. (Or because she was too confident about a mediocre show, TABOO.)
More importantly, she's passionate, she taks a stand, she cares deeply about children, about parenting, about adoption, about kids having a shot -- and especially about gay people being FIRST CLASS PARENTS in this troubled society -- one that in some states (FLORIDA!) thinks foster care beats the love of any gay parent. She cuts through the insanity of such thinking, and puts her money where her mouth is -- and her mouth is, thank God, in front of a mic at key moments. When he finally came out, it was to help something besides sell a book (her profit were donated) -- it was to assist two gay men in Florida fighting to keep children they'd sheltered and loved.
The thing about Rosie is, warts and all, and it's a bottom line for me: She truly exemplifies the old 60s adage that if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
Rosie is the most caring, generous person I know. Yes - she has strong opinions and will debate like a warrior, but that doesn't make her "rude" or "arrogant." Look at all she does for Broadway. That's NOTHING compared to what she has done on her TV show: gun control, breast cancer awareness, mamograms, super kids, 9/11, leave your baby at a hospital - no questions asked, etc. etc. etc.
She believed in a show so much, she funded it through her own wallet.
When she argues with someone, she is called a bitch. Why? She is standing up for what she believes in.
All the way down here in Texas....Rosie O'Donnell was a way to get to see some broadway and really the first one to introduce me to it. If I ever win a Tony...I'm going to thank her.

"shes sick.. and rude"
This type of statement fascinates me. Without any knowledge of the person making it, we have no awareness of what the designations really mean. In other words, sick in what way, and rude how? Without any context to the denigration, the only real effect is for the poster to look mean and insulting.
Proper analysis, DGrant. It also suggests that the user is "sick" and "rude" themself.
actually.. she was personally rude to me.. you have no right to call me sick or rude, you do not know me or anything about me. i have a reason for what i said.. i do not make judgements on people for no reason. i have my reasons which are personal, and i do not have to share or care to share. we are all entitled to our own opinions.. this does not give you the right to judge me.
According to what you said in your post - you have no right to judge her. You should have included "for personal reasons." How were we supposed to know? By saying those four words, it came across that you were just being "rude" and "sick" - especially rude.
So yes, I did have reason to say it. Just as much as you did.
And she hid the fact that she was gay for years and years - not by just keeping it to herself, but by openly pretending to be something she was not. How exactly does that make her a friend to gay people? To be so ashamed that you have to make a huge show of being straight? Tom Cruise indeed.

It's times like this where I really miss Rosie's show -- when the new crop of Broadway shows are opening. We could always count on her to have all the new shows performing - and now we are extremely lucky if any of the talk shows feature Broadway. It's like a treat now to get a Broadway show on TV - when with Rosie it was something we could look forward to.
*sigh*
Someone in this thread was right - Broadway community was very quick to turn on her. I was recently introduced to a quote by Alec Guinness that is so perfect re: Rosie and how people have treated her:
"The applause of all but very good men is no more than the precise measure of their possible hostility."

um, she never kept it hidden, she just never said in a public statement: I'M GAY! but she never tried to keep it a secret. and as for the tom cruise thing. gay people can still think someone of the opposite gender is good looking and they can fawn over them. she has said many times that she has had relationships with men before, but she really can only have an emotional relationship with a women.
When the media made it a huge story - no one on the show was surprised. Nathan Lane (on her final show) knew already. I think all theater people knew, and when the media found out, they broke the news as an "announcement."
It's not OK for Rosie to be bisexual? If she is. She said on one of her final shows that she thinks Tom Cruise is the perfect looking man.
People are attracted to both genders, no matter what their sexual orientation is.

Tom Cruise indeed.
I'm as hetero as you can get - but there is a particular Broadway lady that I would be as giddy over as Rosie was with Tom. I never thought the Tom thing was odd - and I knew deep down she was gay. She also never publically came out and announced it, but apparently anyone who knew her was aware of her sexuality. She wasn't *hiding* it as much as not publicizing it. There's a difference. Frankly it was none of people's business.
It still isn't :)
