I wouldn't call Ragtime or Caroline, or Change flops, but they both deserved longer runs on Broadway. Those were two amazing shows! Adding to the list, the original Porgy and Bess.

Oh, there were evil forces that made them flop. They're called critics.
Uhhh, if that was true, Pirate Queen would've closed five minutes into the opening night performance...

As said before, The Light in the Piazza is not a flop. I was a not-for-profit producton, so it is neither a flop nor a hit.
Shows like Ragtime, Millie, etc. though they had long runs, still lost money in the end, so they are classified as flops.
My list:
Sunday in the Park with George
Sweeney Todd
Ragtime

Parade. Amazing story, amazing score, amazing book, should be revived but it's too soon.

Definitely "The Wedding Singer" in my book. I saw it four times and absolutely loved it every time. I've definitely spoken to more people that liked it than disliked it. If the critics hadn't undeservedly trashed it then it would've lasted much longer.

It didn't recoup, but Ragtime ran several years, won a few awards and is performed often today. Finacially, it lost money, but I would hardly call it a major flop. Same thing with Sweeney Todd, Follies, Sunday in the Park... and so on. I think the original poster is trying to start a discussion on shows like Mack and Mabel that were absolutely great but flopped big time.

Yes, Ragtime was not a major flop such as Mack and Mabel, Anyone can Whistle, but the facts remains it's still a flop. It's not a huge one, but it is. And I think it should've had a longer run and made back it's money.

It should have ran longer. It really was great. Damn Garth Dravinsky (sp?)!

Merrily We Roll Along ... not one of Sondheim's best, but some great melodies and the usual amazing lyrics, and from a technical standpoint, I think the show is very well-done.
