All Shook Up

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

can't believe i'm admitting this, but Mamma Mia.

I didn't have any desire to see it whatsoever, but ended up having a ball & loving it.

Zanna Don't. It is one of my favorites now. I saw it three times.
I hope it comes to Broadway. I hope John Tags is Zanna.
I would also love them to bring puppets into the show.
The bird would be great as a talking puppet. Zanna (if it was John could do so much more with his talents.)
Puppets would work in Zanna!

Oh I second Urinetown. I was pretty much opposed to seeing it the first time, but after that, I was hooked!

Urinetown and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (I was curious about both, but didn't think I would like them)... now I love both of them and am seeing Spelling Bee again next month.

RENT... it's been around for awhile and I didn't start getting into it until all the movie hype started... the first time I heard it was last month and now I can't stop listening to it...

So I'm a little behind... re: shows that you were not interested in but gave a shot and ...you liked

CAROLINE, OR CHANGE

I pooh poohe'd it, and was convinced I would dislike it.

I saw it and fell in love with it, and saw it 3 times.

I'd go again if it were playing.

Thank you, Namo and Iflit.

All Shook Up. My friend was really into it, and I really didn't want to see it because I despise Elvis. And I had one of the most amazing nights.

Spelling Bee
Parade

"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending. The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."

Chitty chitty bang bang. No ASU that day so we decided to go for it and I wound up going back. Ok, I will admit I should have drawn the line after the first cause I realize once was enough. I could be seeing sweeney for a third time(which I will be doing anyway this saturday re: shows that you were not interested in but gave a shot and ...you liked )!

The Light in the Piazza, the adds on public radio were awful, they made it sound trite, it isn't.

Then the biggie for me:

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, I would lotto Avenue Q for weeks as I watched the marquee go up and I just thought, "That looks terrible." It had been open for weeks before I finally bought tickets. Now I can't wait to go for the eleventh time.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Hairspray. I wasn't really that interested in seeing it, and when I heard the score I hated it. But my roommate had a ticket and convinced me to go, and I had a great time. I always get the songs stuck in my head now.

Hal Prince's revival of SHOW BOAT. I saw a lot of shows during that week in London, and I only went to see this one because I couldn't get tickets to SUNSET BOULEVARD because it closed a couple of months earlier. Though I had heard some songs of SHOW BOAT and had read about the storyline, I never had any urge to see it. But I went to see it anyway and really loved the show!!

For me, I have to say Evita.I thought there was no way I would like this musical.I always thought Andrew Lloyd Webber were too classical and over my head.I decided to give it a shot when the tour came to my hometown in October.By the time Oh What A Circus was playing,I realized how wrong I was.It is an amazing show with an amazing story.I loved the combination of pop, rock, and latin music and the incredible songs. It was an experience I will never forget.I can hardly wait for Cats and Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to come here next year.I am even thinking about seeing Phantom on Broadway.

I never had a desire to see Piazza but someone on this thread convinced me...and I actually liked it. >>>>

When I saw the title of the thread, I was going to post to pretty much the same thing. I proabably never would have seen the show if not for this board and it was by far my favorite show of the year.

For me, Spelling Bee fits the description perfectly. I had absolutely no interest in seeing it.

I went for the Wicked lottery and lost, so I figured I might as well throw my name in for the Spelling Bee, not really wanting to win. I was actually disappointed when I won to be honest and had almost given up my seat to another woman...

But I'm so glad I didn't. I absolutely loved this show! I've been listening to the cast recording constantly since and can't wait to see it again.

(P.s... I saw Todd on as Barfee, and thought he was incredible. Compared to the cast recording, I actually prefer Todd, though I can't be sure until I see the original...)
