I had no interest in seeing Rent, and then I became obsessed with Seasons Of Love back in like 1990 something, finally saw Rent in 2002, against my will, and I loved it!
Spamalot, I thought sounded like the dumbest show ever, I had nooooo interest in seeing it, randomnly decided to wait in the 'cancellation' line as a joke one day, cause Lennon's 20 dollar tickets were sold out, somehow got 2 40$ tickets row A and row C Orchestra, via some guy who couldn't attend the show that night, and I ended up LOVING it. The songs are constantly in my head, and I thought it was hilarious! (and i've still never seen a Monty Python movie...)
42nd street revival. I wanted to get tickets for Wicked but couldn't and went bummed to 42nd street. I ended having a tremendous amount of fun and when I saw Wicked later I disliked it.
Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum - did not appeal to me in the slightest but as I was with a group of people who desperately wanted to go, I tagged along.
I thoroughly enjoyed it! There were times I laughed so hard I nearly peed myself... nearly.

The Boy From Oz- I never really had a big interest in seeing it, but when I saw it, I just loved it.
The Producers-I never knew that it was based on a Mel Brooks movie, I always thought it was something written for the theatre. I had somewhat of an interest in seeing it, but not until after I saw the original film(I think), that and the Curb Your Enthusiam season finale with Larry in The Producers. It's my favorite show, next to SpamAlot. Since then, I've seen it 6 times.
Avenue Q- Never had an interest in it. The whole puppet thing didn't appeal to me, but then I saw the performance at the Tony's and then from there, I started listening to the cast album, and when I saw it, I just loved it.

-The Producers:the movie musical
I had no desire to see "Bombay Dreams" and not too much into the asian thing and i loved it. It wasn't advertised right.
I never wanted to see "Mamma Mia!" and my grandmother ordered us tickets to see it around Christmas Time right after it first opened. Earlier that day we were at Ground Zero and I was so depressed and in no mood to sit through Dancing Queen for 2 hours but I went anyway. By the ened of the first song I loved and lifted me up so much. I've been back to see it so much and its one of my favorite shows.

For some strange reason I really had no desire to see DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS, but I went with a friend and thought it was amazing! Needless to say, I didn't know what I was thinking!

The Producers. Not that I absolutely hated it, but I went in somewhat challenging the show to demonstrate to me why it won best musical, over the brilliant score that is Jane Eyre. It definitely proved itself. I went out of the theatre really understanding those who have said that the musical for musical theatre lovers is not 42nd Street but The Producers!

here's another one for ASU. i kept poo-pooing it because i wasnt so familiar with elvis' music b/c he was before my time. When i saw ASU i fell in love with not only the show, but elvis' music. i saw it 3 times and now i listen to the cd EVERYDAY!
im really glad i didnt refuse to see it
Hairspray!
Wicked, actually. I saw the Tony's performance and had no real interest, but got tickets for my birtday and was hooked.
Hairspray- I thought that I wouldn't enjoy the humor in this show, but I really loved it. I've always liked listening to the music my parents grew up with, so I enjoyed the influence from the '60s, and by "Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now," I was in love. I've seen it three times, and there are probably more viewings in my future. (And I'm not sure how I made it so long without seeing the movie, either!)
Avenue Q- I really didn't want to see a show with puppets. Since I didn't especially enjoy musicals with people dressed up as animals (Cats and The Lion King), I doubted that I would enjoy puppets. The show was funnier than I thought, and to my surprise, I actually like listening to the album.

just back from one...and it sure surprised me....i was expecting to hate "almost heaven/john denver" and i actually was pretty impressed by the terrific cast. the audience all stood up and cheered at the end (and the house manager said that standing ovations have been happening all weekend). ya never know...
The 25th Annual Putnam Counting Spelling Bee.
I bought the cast recording and didn't like it at all... one day I tried for the Wicked Lottery, lost... so i thought I should give the "Bee" a shot... and won! The whole thing was such a great experience... and now is one of my favorites! I can't get Pandemonium out of my head.
