come ON.

first off you can see that it is a massive CLUMP of writing with no paragraph structure or anything breaking it up. that tells you it will be a pain to read most likely. secondly if you read the first sentence of two, you get an idea of the grammar. which is what you did, you even said you didn't read the whole thing.

so good for you, you stopped torturing yourself.

believe me, i am all for good grammar. i completely agree that the grammar is so terrible in kids, heck even our whole country. i cringe when i hear that diet commercial with the girl saying "it was amazing 'cause it worked so good."

and yeah, people are going to be subjected to whatever others want to say, but i don't think it's necessary to take it as far as people usually do here. i mean, fine, if you have to say something about her bad grammar. but then to go on making fun of her saying stuff like,

"Sssh. She's still working on it. She hasn't posted here in a while...Children's Television Workshop books are hard!"

i mean, come on. that's too far. especially saying this right in front of her. sure, she's guilty of bad grammar, but these people are guilty of being unnecessarily rude. it's just a sad thing because the truth is i am sure no one would ever say this kind of stuff in front of a person in reality. never. so why does it happen on the internet?

Simple-because you have no idea who's out there typing on their keyboard. You can't automatically expect the kind of behavior that you think is right. That's why I said you leave yourself open to any and all kinds of criticism.

i know why it happens, i just wish people would realize that they are still talking to another human being. and saying things they'd probably never say to the face of a complete stranger.

all i am saying is it's sad that the people here don't show more common courtesy.

Why is someone who cares about grammar and spelling a SNOB? If that's true, we need more snobs.

Why aren't you calling people who don't know their grammar nor their spelling a name? I'm thinking illiterate or something to that effect.

Actually, "ain't" is grammatically correct. It's not a word in what the powers that be have deemed "Standard American English," the dialect that should be used for formal issues such as work, school, etc, but "ain't" is in fact a word in a different dialect of English. To call it grammatically incorrect is quite ignorant.

Good job Lizzie! As a future English teacher, I commend your efforts!

To me the striking thing about the original post is how the grammar.. or lack of grammar really reflects the self-centeredness of poster.

Grammar conventions have developed to make comprehension easier for your readers.

And the poster clearly is so self-consumed that she doesn't even care enough about her readers to make it easy for them to understand her whiny rant.

Grammar is like good manners, don't use it and it means you are rude.

It may seem mean spirited, but really. Does the world really need to waste its time becasue a teenager misses an evening out? She/he has all her/his life to see bway shows. There really are bigger issues and more interesting things to spend our time thinking about.
