how many successful thespians in theatre actually went to college?
One - CHENO. Oh, sorry, I'm sure there are more. I'm just in love right now.
hunter foster went to Michigan,
michael ball went to the guildford conservatoire,
michelle pawk went to CCM (as did Matt Bogart, Lauren Kennedy, Jessica Boevers, Shoshana Bean, Stephen Flaherty, Jim & Bob Walton, Faith Prince, Kim Criswell, Vickie Lewis, Lee Roy Reams, Lee Wilkof, Pamela Meyers, Martin Vidnovic)
and tons tons others...
almost anytime you check a bio of a younger or newer performer they'll list it (since tehy don't have much else to list yet)... you see a LOT of AMDA, point park, CMU, boston, michigan.. but as they get older they stop putting it in their bios- which misleads audience members to think that they didn't receive training... which is predominantly not the case..
however there are some like Laura Benanti who was @ NYU for like 2 weeks or something and then got Sound of Music so she left...
a good rule of thumb would be - assume bfa unless otherwise noted.

The vast majority of Broadway ACTORS are college graduates, with degrees in theatre.
Dancers, particularly women, might be the exception. Many start loking for professional work as young as 17.
Hugh Panaro went to Temple University.
John Cudia went to Fordham Universtity (at Lincoln Center)...(shameless plug for lauren's school :P )
