Closing nights are usually pretty respectful (unless it's a long running show or one with a huge cult following) and I (unfortunately) have been to 4 in the past few months...if you're really connected to the show you'll definitely get emotional even at the smallest things.

"Again, completely illogical, bordering-on-stupid comment. Most audiences who saw [tos] DID love it."
Well, no, they didn't. In fact, not even most theater people loved it. If you can't tell that just from reading this board and Talkin Broadway's board then you haven't been paying attention. Certainly they crowd I was with did NOT love it. They thought it was cute, and clever at times, but certainly not worth the price they paid.
Look, you want to defend the show because you loved it, more power to you. But all shows end for one reason, they fail to find enough of an audience. Speaking as an audience member who went into the show wanting to like it, it certainly did not live up to my expectations and I could not in all honesty encourage others to buy a ticket for it. Judging by the grosses, there were an awful lot who felt the same way.
But I do believe they are all talented performers and writers, and I don't agree with those who think we've heard the last of them. I think they will write more shows. I hope they do. When they do, I will be first in line to see them.

Just bought my ticket to closing night. I just saw it 2 weeks ago and I LOVED it... I feel similarly to a lot of people here, that the show just really inspired me and spoke to me. So sad to see it go so soon... here's to hoping Tony noms aren't a TOTAL disappointment, despite however many people didn't like the show.

Absolutely does not deserve to close. I understand and knew it was coming, but still. I'll never get to see it. (Living 4 hours away and not driving yet and parents who just DONT GET IT doesnt help.)
Congrats on a fab yet short run, [tos]

Well, well, well, the inevitable happened. It's sad yes, but I'm shocked it lasted until October. I was sure it would be done by Labor Day. Oh well, it did what it wanted to accomplish, even if it wasn't a super mega-hit. (in all seriousness, did anyone really, truthfully think this would be the next Wicked?)
I just really hope that Hunter & Jeff come back to the theatre scene with something new, sharing the same hilarious wit and off-the-wall humor, but with a broader story and less obscurity. If they can achieve this, they might have a decent shot at a hit. And again, I really hope they do this because it would be a huge loss to musical theatre to lose these two, who are truly capable of greatness. (yeah, yeah, [tos] is greatness already, but something that's successful greatness)
Anyways, is the show eligible for the Tonys anymore? I know Hunter & Jeff are being considered, but the show itself?...

Awww, I'm devasted. I'm almost crying. I sort of felt like they'd be there forever once they got there. I really hope we see more from the [tos] gang

I bought my tickets today! I'm so excited.
I'll be in NY the weekend of October 10th, so I am lucky enough to be going to the closing performance.
