On the bus and TRUUUUUUUUUCK
Seriously, though, I don't see it happening. I love me some [tos[, but if it couldn't stay afloat in New York, then what makes you think it'll work in Atlanta or Raleigh?

Posted: 10/14/08 at 7:06pmI could see them doing a tour with one or two dates per city (or how many they could sell). If they use just the 4 chairs and the keyboard and get rid of the retractable walls, then all they would need is one small truck to move their sets and costumes. It could be successful.

It couldn't find an audience on Broadway. Its D.O.A. to America.
Only the selected few who follow the New York theatre scene and Broadway has heard of this show. No one else has, not even fans of Broadway musicals or regular visitors of New York City. Ask around (and not your Broadway fans) and you'll see.
Heck... there are people who have no idea LEGALLY BLONDE or THE WEDDING SINGER were adapted into Broadway musicals. I know someone who is obsessed with all things Disney and never knew that TARZAN was made into a musical.
This should give you an insight of why so many shows close so quickly -- the mainstream masses (who are what these shows rely on to fill seats and keep shows running) have NO clue shows open or exist. Only Broadway fans know and we're a huge enormous minority. In fact... most repeated fans of shows see the show on discount -- they don't even pay top ticket prices.
Thankfully Dolly Parton is oversaturating the talk show circuit plugging 9 TO 5: The Musical, so at least SOME mainstream people are somewhat aware that the film was adapted into a musical. Now Dolly will have to revisit these talk shows again to plug the show once it arrives on Broadway -- to remind people of the musical.

Posted: 10/14/08 at 7:27pmThey've also begun to build names for themselves in NYC. Hopping on a bus and skipping town doesn't seem like the smartest career move.

while I agree it isn;t the best move for them
most touring houses are sold by subscriptions, so a show such as [tos] could easily slide into a package season full of old hits, and could find some exposure. I don't think it would be the most succesful show to tour, but IMHO it would find new fans and some more traction.
Again, I don't think it is a good option for them, as I am sure they are going to have good careers in NYC, it could happen.

A TOS tour would only work as one nighters playing college campuses with the occasional limited runs in small venues in cities like LA or SF, Boston, or Chicago. But, the original cast is Equity, so the one nighters are out.... so, my guess? No tour. Maybe they could do limited runs in bigger cities, but not a traditional tour.
But, the producers' investors lost everything on the show. I doubt they'd poney up to tour it.

while i'm pretty sure they have no intention of doing what i'm about to suggest i think it would be a great option for them.
i think they should tour different college and high school theatre departmetns and conservatories or like community theaters because drama people really are the target audience for the show, which is why it didn't really appeal to tourists.
i dont know, jsut a thought i spose.
Cages or wings? Which do you prefer? Ask the birds. Fear or love, baby? Don't say the answer Actions speak louder than words. (Tick, Tick... BOOM!)

Posted: 10/15/08 at 2:24amI do bet the original cast does a brief stint in Los Angeles (where they can pitch the movie version!)

Posted: 10/15/08 at 2:36amI don't think that it would tour. Most touring houses are bigger then The Lyceum. If it could fit the Lyceum well enough on Broadway then the odds of it filling a touring house are slim.

Co-creator/co-star Bell told Playbill.com Oct. 10, ... While this [tos] chapter at the Lyceum is done on the 12th, ... So we're hitting pause this Sunday and then next up... maybe [tos] in some other cities and then back to New York ... and we're still keen on a [tos] blimp and theme park, too!"
