Fiyero dies in the book.
if by book, you mean the original by mcguire, oh no no no
these two are pretty different
I'd say the musical is nothing like the book
Its sad hoe Fyero gets killed off rather early in the book, but no, everyone dies in that book.
the book and show are wayyy different
SPOILER
but yes, in the musical elphaba does pretend to melt and go through the trapdoor to be with Fiyero

the musical is really different from the book you would never guess the book would turn into a family musical
the book itself is very dark
it is more about elphabas journey and life than her and Galindas relationship
Elphies charaterization is much more developed in the book
In addition to Fiyero's rather early death in the book, it is made abundantly clear in the novel that Elphaba is really dead. It's not some charade.
The book is really about Elphaba, whereas the musical centers on both Elphaba and Glinda. As a matter of fact there's a stretch of 100 or so pages where Glinda isn't seen at all.

The last few sentences of the book leave it open that she could return,
it almost makes me call wicked an "original musical" because technically it is based on the book but really only used a few main ideas and the character names from it.... And while I love Wicked, I wouldn't honor it by calling it an original musical and putting it creatively with the likes of Drowsy and [tos]

And Boq has sex with a tiger. I wish they'd musicalized that scene.
lol, i was just going to mention that tiger scene.
But it would be hell on wheels if they tried to make Morrible's robot assistant, I'd imagine he ould come out looking like a bad version of C3PO
I'm glad they scrapped the tik-toks. A giant clock-influenced set is quite enough.
