agree with Diva, NO NO NO
Never want to see Jessica Simpson on a stage, because she is a horrible singer... and I really dislike her. Why would she be good? She sings really bad, and Elphaba actually has to be a powerful singer. And plus, she is annoying and dumb.

To whoever said that Jessica has awful technique: Not true! I might not be a fan, but she has great technique. She breathes properly (from the diaphragm) and she belts with proper technique as well. Over the years, she hasn't suffered from vocal deterioration or damage and she's still going strong. I might not like when she gets breathy and stuff, but she knows exactly what she's doing when she belts.
I don't think she could play the role well, but I would LOVE to hear her sing Elphaba's numbers!

no offense, but of all the elphaba casting ideas, this is the worst. and the funniest. can you see jessica simpson GREEN?
and now you're all picturing that. i KNOW it.

that's awesome... I do agree it is one of the worst ideas. Why would you take a great role and ruin it on Jessica Simpson?
And Joshua... I personally think her voice has detioriated... and is going to continue. Her voice isn't even that strong to begin with, but when she sings she is all breathy sounding... I don't like her voice at all.

Joshua, I agree. I'm not a big fan, but she does have a good voice. We don't have to like her, her music, or what she stands for (Lord knows, I don't) but when I've heard her sing, I've been mildly impressed. I can't stand when she's lumped into sections with Christina Aguilera (who is AWFUL) and Britney Spears (no need to comment) when she actually sings what she puts on record. Just not right for this role, or any role on Broadway.

Posted: 1/17/05 at 10:16pmJoshua, her voice has definitely deteriorated. If you compare her first single with "Take My Breath Away" there is a huge difference. She was tolerable when she first started. And it looks as if she might burst a blood vessel every time she sings. Singing is supposed look like an easy natural thing. If it looks hard, you're doing something wrong.

Neeeeever.
Now that I think about it, she and Nick have ruined some classic songs. "A Whole New World". "Baby It's Cold Outside". Let's not add a couple great Wicked songs to that register...

Blair I agree with you... and I also agree with you, vontusslegirl... they have definitely ruined some Christmas classics. I dont' want to ruin a great role for nothing... her and her sister also ruined "Little Drummer Boy".
So... no no no

Posted: 1/17/05 at 11:01pmI dont have any problem with Jessica Simpson in general, but I stand by the fact that no matter how belty her voice is, I just couldn't see her as Elphaba. Sure the character is open for change and interpretation on the actress's behalf but that would be way too much of a stretch to see Jessica Simpson (perky, blonde "Sorry I dont eat buffalo") play Elphaba. Plus her singing style is completely different I think.

Posted: 1/18/05 at 5:16pmUmm you guys are being very mean.I heard Jessica. She's actually a pretty good singer. I dont know if she can act, but if I heard her sing a song from it maybe...i mean no one thought little women would be any good until they heard those clips of it online. so u can never really tell. i think the show is still popular enough to attract people whether or not thety have a star in the lead role.
