Thanks very much Brody!

I think I need to make a run to Blockbuster and rent the documentary...

Just bought it today and I'm in the middle of listening to it. So far so good!

Anyone have a link to a synopsis?

Ok next question...

If you were to introduce LaChiusa to someone who's never heard his music, which musical would you show them first? (assume that the person IS a musical theatre fan)

In other words, list his musicals in order of the most accessible

My list would be:

Wild Party
See What I Wanna See
Marie Christine
Bernarda Alba
First Lady Suite
Hello, Again

Anyone disagree?

I'd love to hear or see a recording of Audra's Seven Deadly Sins concert.

Is there a cd or dvd out?

Clicquot- That's a great analysis. I doubt I would have ever picked up some of those things if you hadn't brought it up.

BSoBW2- Never heard of "Lover's and Friends," but I'd love to check it out. Tell us about it.

Can I also gush for a minute about Barnarda Alba? I read the play after listening to it, and I gotta say, he did an incredible job illuminating it. He took Lorca's most beautiful lines and made them so personal and haunting. "One Moorish Girl" is truly terrifying...

I agree with completely with gust. It seems to me, when I listen to a LaChiusa piece, that every other line in a song has a message or idea that I have time to digest for about two seconds before I'm distracted with another point that he brings up.

For instance, here's a few lines from "People Like Us" from Wild Party:

People like us, we slip by through the cracks,
We'll never be famous so who's gonna care?
Nobody needs us and everyone's had his way
Here, but not

To be honest, I don't know what the requirements for the Pulizer are. We all know that musicals can and have been given the Prize, but I don't know any details.

Anyone have any clues?

Ditto what everyone said. Stunning show.

What I don't understand is why, since there was not a Pulizer Prize given to a play this year, it wasn't given to this show?! I truly think it deserved it in every way.

Oh.

My.

God.

I JUST finished listening to the cd for the first time.

If you haven't heard it yet or seen the show, get the cd NOW. This is a show for artists of any kind. The songs are SO funny and intimate and personal... I really can't say enough about it. I'm so blown away, I'm not even coherent.

To the writers of this show: THANK YOU for writing such an amazing work.

Oooook rant over.

Just had to get that out of me.

Jane Eyre

I went through this HUGE obsession back in high school and even though I know that its music isn't up-to-par, I will always love this show.

This show was probably my biggest obession a few years back. The lyrics are sometimes a bit shaky but I will always be very fond of this show.

Its basically the reason I survived high school. lol

re: iPod vs. CD

Both

However, I've been buying more and more albums on iTunes recently. I don't want to pay 20 bucks for a cd when I can get TWO albums for the same price. iTunes and my wallet are real good friends.

This sounds really dumb but I also like the idea that I don't have to search store to store to find what I want. With iTunes, I don't even have to leave my room to get new cds.

That said, I would rather have the hard copy. One day when I'm really rich I'll get the hard c

re: Cherry Jones is a DIVINE human being

I got to meet her after seeing her in Doubt. She was so gracious and kind. I was so star struck though, I couldn't do much besides drool.

It is my firm belief that if Christ does have a bloodline that continues on today- the the Da Vinci Code says- OBVIOUSLY Cherry Jones is one of those decendents...

j/k
