Universal's WICKED Film - News & Discussion Thread Jan 10

I went to a sing-a-long showing tonight. There were 10 looked like high school aged girls who not only sang along, but had practiced the choreography and filled the aisles during a few songs. It was really fun.

Original movie musical EMILIA PEREZ starring Karla Sofía Gascón, Zoe Saldaña, and Selena Gomez wins three prizes at Cannes Jan 10

It’s billed as a crime musical comedy. I enjoy crime shows, enjoy comedy, love musicals, so I was excited. OMG, a comedy? I never even smiled. Musical? I thought the songs were very forgettable. Crime, yep, there was a lot of that. But just when I would get interested, it went off on some weird tangent. I finally turned it off and looked on Wikipedia to see how it ended. I really hated it. The acting was good, but no way in hell is it the best movie of the year. Not even close. Might be

Question: Can Part 2 be nominated for the same awards Part 1 was nominated for? Is it possible for it to win Best Picture two years in a row? Cynthia Best Sctress two years in a row, etc?

I’m a Wicked nerd. I’ve seen the show 15 times. I did not have high hopes for this movie, and frankly thought it was almost blasphemous to even try. While there is nothing like live theater (how many times did I see Megan make Eden crack 🙂), I LOVED this! Now to find a sing-a-long screening! 🩷💚

Best wishes to Alison Huff. Tough shoes to fill! I can’t remember anyone stealing a show the way Betsy Wolfe did! For me, anyway!

Zachery Levi says Gavin Creel died of COVID vaccine Oct 25
2024, 12:22:21 PM
My husband died December 21, 2020. Oh how I wish the vaccine would have been available for him. I, too, almost died. We were in the hospital at the same time. I have had 4 COVID vaccinations, getting my 5th one next week. Idiotic posts/opinions like this just reopen the wound more.

I was in NYC two weeks ago. Kicking myself I didn’t see Outsiders, Hells Kitchen, Water for Elephants, but I only had so much time and $$$$$.
Other thoughts:
*Now I want to watch WSS again-that was the only thing I liked about Ariana DeBose.
*No desire to see Cabaret, though I love the movie. That was bizarre.
*I’m confused-it seems like Sterophonic is a musical. Was there discussion on which category they would be nominated?

The Wiz returning to Bway in 2023 after National Tour Jan 7

The only thing I knew about this show was it was a “black version of The Wizard of Oz”. Saw it tonight in Tempe, AZ and loved it. There is some serious talent on that stage. Dorothy (she’s only 24????) was amazing. I left with a smile and a search for the songs on Spotify.

I saw this on Broadway. I only know this because I have the Playbill. I do remember I could only understand maybe 25% of what was being said/sung.It obviously didn’t make an impression. But I loved this! And holy cow, what talented kids!

David Archuleta in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Aug 29

I saw this a couple of weeks ago. The Tina Turner bothered me, but only because I think the Elvis part is brilliant. The girl who played Tina was really good. Before the song started she said, “That’s right, Pharaoh is a she”. Oh and during the “what does it mean” part she said “tell me what, what, what, what’s love got to do with it, and what does it mean.”
The theater itself is so beautiful. I was quite impressed with the cast. David wa

I'm in NYC for 10 days, seeing 8 shows (Moulin Rouge, SIX, DEH, Music Man, Funny Girl, Lion King, Aladdin, Blue Man Group-Grandkids will be here for LK,AL,BMG). I have time for a matinee. I think I've narrowed it down to Mr. Saturday Night, or Company. I'll be by myself.
Your thoughts? FYI, I'm not DYING to see Patti Lupone.

Moulin Rouge-rating? Mar 24
2022, 12:55:55 PM
I admit I’m a bit of a prude. I loved the Moulin Rouge movie, which I think would be rated PG-13. Is the musical the same? Any nudity? I can handle a few f bombs, but would prefer it not be used in every sentence. Recently saw Tina Turner, MJ, and SIX. Loved all of them. Will I be uncomfortable in MR?
