Report: The Phantom of the Opera May Be Readying an Off-Broadway Return Jun 23

Not including the mask in the $195 ticket price is absurd. I was curious about this but think I'll pass unless it gets good reviews and extends, $400 is a ton of money to drop here.

BLACK SWAN and WONDER world premiere musicals and more set for American Repertory Theatre Jun 5

witchoftheeast2 said: "Black Swan had a workshop last year, didn't it? Does anyone remember who was in that?"
Looks like Lena Hall, Amber Gray, and Rachel York were all a part of it. I’d assume Gray and Hall were the Portman/Kunis characters and maybe York was Ryder but unclear based on this post.

JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN Reviews: Run time? Jun 5
2025, 10:31:31 AM
Wonder if they have another celebrity name lined up to replace her or if they’re going to make a go of it just with strong word of mouth. I have to think a lot of young celebrity actresses would be interested in this play, especially if the run would just be six weeks, but not sure who fits the right age demographic, everyone that pops into my head feels a bit too old.

This feels a little absurd at this point. Where was the 500-person signed letter when Scott Rudin announced he was returning to the theater?

Through the end of the holiday season, beginning of 2026 closing date?"
I have to think the final season of the TV show dropping in the fall will help its numbers (not sure why they didn't time it to that in the first place)

The 78th Annual Tony Award Nominations for 2025 May 1
2025, 04:19:02 PM
singerunlimited said: "Now that the noms are officially out, who do we think will take Best Actor in a Musical this year?"
I lean toward Tom Francis. Darren's characterization and acting are excellent and I'd love to see him win just as a longtime fan, but man, he just doesn't sound great on that score, which is so surprising because I generally really like his voice.

The 78th Annual Tony Award Nominations for 2025 May 1

Wow, they really loved Buena Vista Social Club, it even got into book when most people seemed to agree the book was the weakest aspect of the show. Dead Outlaw also did very well, and so did Maybe Happy Ending. Really happy that Taylor Trensch got his first nomination, he's fantastic in Floyd Collins.

Interesting that of the three Gypsy women, Lesli Margherita is the one that got in here. Featured Actress feels like a really weak category so I still think Joy will get in based on the strength of the role but I’m much more uncertain now.

I actually really enjoyed this show for what it was but Jesse Green giving this basically a straight rave is hilarious. That review will be plastered EVERYWHERE.

These are shocking to me."

FLOYD COLLINS Previews Apr 8
2025, 02:07:12 PM
Also saw the show on Sunday and ended up enjoying it a lot. I think if they'd written the show now as opposed to years ago, this would be a one-act -- the story gets a bit thin in parts (why did the parents have a song?), but there's a really resonant theme in there about how we sensationalize and profit from tragedy and by doing so distance ourselves from it. Jeremy Jordan and Taylor Trensch were both great. I hope that Trensch can get a Tony nom for this. Sean Allan Krill didn&

Where in the Stranger Things timeline is this set? Is it pre-series (based on the title)? Should I refresh myself on the plot before I go?

Why isn’t Bart Sher directing this production? He would’ve had a real set.

JOHN PROCTOR IS THE VILLAIN Previews Mar 21

Saw this tonight and really really loved it. All the humor worked so well for me and the characters were fantastically complex and every emotional moment was so well earned. Especially loved Sink, Amalia Yoo, and Fina Strazza. The references might date this show quickly but this will have a massive life regionally and at schools.

I'll keep hoping one day for Lady Gaga to star in Evita. If she ever did Broadway, this would be a perfect role for her.

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews Jan 2
2025, 08:42:29 AM
Saw this last night and WOW, Audra was truly sensational. Obviously her voice is phenomenal but she owned this role and her Rose’s Turn was something to behold.
That said, I thought Burstein was surprisingly weak. Wonder if it was just an off night for him since he’s normally someone I love to see on stage but he was distractingly bad in his first scene. He settled in after that but I never thought he was great.

MAYBE HAPPY ENDING Reviews Dec 14

Saw this today and absolutely loved it. I’ll see anything Michael Arden directs at this point because it’s all truly spectacular, but loved this show a ton. Criss and Shen are both great. Hoping for a cast recording soon to revisit the score.

Universal's WICKED Film - News & Discussion Thread Nov 21
2024, 01:27:16 PM
I saw it twice this week and I enjoyed it a ton. The cinematography was easily the worst part about the film, the lighting was pretty bad throughout which was a shame since the practical sets were phenomenal, but the songs, orchestrations, and the actors were all great, especially Ariana who was really impressive.
