I was expecting Clooney to miss out - figured Denzel and/or Gyllenhaal would be too big to ignore. But both of them missing for McCartney was NOT on my radar!

Leading Actor in a Musical getting 6 nominees, but one of them being Iglehart over David Hyde Pierce is... a choice. Meanwhile the chock full Leading Actress in a Musical category only gets 5 nominees. Wild.

I hope Death Becomes her gets it! it's the best musical this season imo!

Must’ve been a tie in leading actor in a musical. I also would’ve gone Pierce but I didn’t see Iglehart when I saw Wonderful World.

I would compare McCartney to Sarah Snook's performance in its physicality and intensity. He's fantastic. No surprise that he's nominated.
Sad for Helen J Shen but thrilled for Jasmine Amy Rogers.
I'm so glad Daniel Dae Kim got in. Crossing my fingers for Francis Jue!
Yeah, Othello is not getting a Revival nod. I wonder what will take its place. Kit Connor and Jim Parsons also did not make it in despite 6 in the category so I don't think those shows are strong either. Could it be Home?!?!

While this category could have been filled out twice over and have every nominee be worthy, this is a pretty perfect lineup.
Genuinely shocked that Actress in a Musical only had 5 noms...sucks for Helen J. Shen
Off to a somewhat weird start for sure.
There's no YouTube link yet for 9:00, right? Or am I missing it?
I believe, in increasingly typical fashion, the livestream is only on Paramount's disastrous streaming service.
But is it usual to announce a couple of the major awards and, like, stop?

They've been doing this for years now with the CBS live show and then the full stream.
They announced 6 categories on CBS at 8:30. The rest are supposed to be streamed on YouTube at 9:00.
I think Home is going to get that 4th revival slot. I had a funny feeling about it last night. And now Kit Connor has missed lead actor despite nominations at Drama League and OCC. I feel like he was the reason to love Romeo and Juliet. And clearly Othello is dead. Which means the open revival slot is probably Home as a way to honor the playwright who passed away shortly before performances started.
