DEAD OUTLAW Previews

Saw this tonight and had mixed feelings about it. I, as most other posters can see this working better in a more intimate space where it originated. I sat 4th row center mezz and the Longacre has a terrible rake with many heads in your way. I also think that the staging and lighting design, which is primarily focused on the band, has a large chunk of the book scenes played either far left or right in the dark with pools of light. The combination of the dark lighting design play

Or a simpler explanation might be that if this production gets good notices and is a hit at the box office how genius would it be to recast with a new artistic perspective with an existing physical production in place at a theatre that needs a continuing tenant. Since it will be part of next season might this be a catalyst to push for a new Tony award for a replacement cast, something that has been talked about for years. Sounds kinda brilliant actually.

I was there last night and I thought it to be an extraordinary evening. If you think of it strictly in theatrical terms one might have some issues but it really is a hybrid of video and theatre. Actually, the staging forces you to look at the various screens more than the single performer. It is truly a hybrid of video and live performance where the video work is really the focus of the evening. Of course, Snook is as extraordinary as has been reported but if you go into this prepared to witn

I loved the TV series from a dozen years ago which lasted only 2 seasons due to audience apathy. I loved that score but I keep wondering who this show is directed at. Is there really an audience to keep this going in a commercial run?  I’d like to hear from someone who never saw the series which pretty much excludes this chat group.  Sounds like we’re all angry about the missed opportunities but will the real “Mr & Mrs. Smith” be entertained or totally pe

So I was at the Invited Dress this evening. The house was pretty full, perhaps nearly a thousand people. Glengarry Glen Ross needs all 7 actors firing on all cylinders and this cast is really on their way. No doubt after a 3 week preview period this should reach its full potential. I was worried that this production would get lost in the PalaceTheatre as it does seem too large a house for this piece but actually it worked quite well. The sets fill the entire stage and

Having seen the 2022 film of Operation Mincemeat which is produced thru Netflix can anyone speak to the very different take that the show presents? The film is a drama with added theatrics to enhance the true story (a possible affair and Nazi threats to the lead female character etc.) I like the film quite a bit and curious if the show ignores the entire film's POV and goes for a fun British romp of sorts. I'm curious how they may intersect if at all.  Thanks.

There has been a lot of talk about the side section seating due to the staging. I saw this delightful show from Mezz. D 17 and even that far to the right the actors were always in view throughout. I do suspect that the 5 seats further to the side isle would get diminishing sightline but Im writing this because if you get a good price on these sideview seating you do capture the show even if the occasional wall of one of the cubes is out of sight. Not sure how this applies in the Orchestra but

Future Bernadette Peters on Broadway shows?
 Jan 15 2025, 12:17:02 AM

Ms. Peters and I work out at the same gym. I have often been right next to her doing my reps and have seen her without makeup, in her leotard vigorously working those machines with her trainer. She absolutely looks and acts 20 years younger than her age. If she could bottle whatever her genes have produced, she would be a billionaire that would have Elon Musk begging for mercy:) Hell, she'd never have to work again....God bless her natural radiance.

Also once the overture begins to the final curtain, if the show runs even a minute or two over the 3 hour mark the production goes into golden overtime for all union contracts. Since I believe the show as played now runs 2:55 I think it's a practical consideration unless they cut something from the script or have the cast wave goodby to the audience at the end as the curtain comes down :)

or posslbly an early Summer opening of The Jellicle Ball? Just speculating since they've already excavated the crap out of the house and both production companies can split the cost of the renovation. Anyone have more concrete projections?

I saw this on Thursday night and I am in agreement with all of the plusses (which are many) as well as the minuses. There are a bit too many cheesy moments from Nicole's valley girl humor to that ****ing cutout of ALW in the act 2 opening that would have been so easy to eliminate. Why diminish this fascinating Greek Choral decent into madness with crap that pulls you out of the moment. I also found the hip hop streetwear costume design for the ensemble abetting this distraction. Yes,

ONCE UPON A MATTRESS Reviews

Was at tonight's performance and was quite disappointed that both Sutton and Michael were out. We had TDF tix so decided to see the show anyway. Both Kara and Daniel Beeman really hit their stride and were quite funny and endearing. It was clearly a different take on the roles and knowing what Sutton and Michael were capable of I'm sure it would have been even funnier than it was tonight (which was still pretty damn funny what with the great polished performances s

and Cortney was terrific! Would not have guessed that she was a standby. The whole evening was fast moving and quite funny in a totally stupid kinda way which in this case is a compliment. It is a big production for this small space and can't really see how they plan on making any money unless it's a massive hit. Right now there are a slew of tix available on TDF.

it just showed up again on TDF for a nano second and I got a pair for November 6th. Not sure if TDF will contact me to renege (which sounds fair under the circumstances) or if they will just honor the $20 price. We'll see. I'm cool either way.

Erivo, Graham, Gotay, and more to lead A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC IN CONCERT
 Jun 29 2024, 11:52:16 PM

So I was there tonight for the final performance. I thought it all went smoothly as it probably should after three performances under their belt. I understand some of the casting complaints but vocally it all came together. Susan Graham's Send in the Clowns was touching as was Cynthia's Miller's Son exciting. Whatever complaints there might be, hearing this score with this large of an orchestra was a musical treat. I stayed thru the exit music and when Jonathan Tunick he

There are rush tickets for today's  performance at $50 each. I just called Centercharge and they sold them to me by phone, albeit with the $11 fee additional. That was $61 per ticket without having to stand on line before the performance. There are a lot of availablity and you can choose your location from the seating map online. Just a head's up.
