Whoopi Goldberg in ANNIE at MSG?
 Dec 29 2024, 08:50:43 AM

The MSG box office is Ticketmaster and it is a nightmare. I couldn't even leave a ticket for someone at will call when they were running late, after Ticketmaster wouldn't let me send the ticket online. God, I hate Ticketmaster.

Glad we finally have a recording of the updated score. Looking forward to listening.

It's only a bit weird to me because we have an on-screen "Part 1" title card in the first film. Either they call it "Part 2" onscreen in the actual film, or they George Lucas the title card from Part 1 so that it's called "Wicked: Defying Gravity" or something.

Looks like 10, but I would have guessed more. Most of the orchestra is playing multiple instruments. We have two woodwinds playing nine instruments. There were also some fun choreography moments but I don't know the show well enough to say what is kind of baked into it and what's the production.

Again, I don't want to go overboard but I'm still kind of surpris

Oh also Sandy was great as well and maybe the audience-favorite performer going by reactions. Especially when Sandy is looking for Annie after "NYC." I think this dog's name was Kevin.

Thankfully they held the curtain but that really was a nightmare!

Okay, here's more! I will echo Jordan about the actors...I have the playbill and those performers were Hazel Vogel (Annie), Julia Nicole Hunter (Grace), and Christopher Swan (Warbucks). All really honestly excellent.

The whole cast and production are enjoyable, and Whoopi picked a better and more supportive vehicle for a stage comeback than many might have suspected. Look, I don't want to be hyperbolic, but it was great to me to see her in this mode. Especially seeing some

At intermission. Earlier discussion makes me feel compelled to report. Not only is the production surprisingly good, Whoopi knows all her lines, is singing!, and is finding laughs. This is a nostalgic treat, having a grand time, more later.

"I am well aware that this show could not have been on a year-end list for this year, but its exclusion from this year-end list from this specific publication is evidence that it's already badly received." Okay thanks lol.

What a trailer. I didn't think it could get any worse and then they hit us with the anachronistic genericism of Pasek & Paul.

My favorite Rose's Turn for sure; the most compelling.

It's not that I don't believe you all, but you're making me want to see this very badly.

Amy Sedaris is the only TV star casting that would really excite me, and she is close with Cole.

I don't know how it plays, but it's interesting that a list of complaints about the design in this thread all read as things that immediately have a dramaturgical justification to me. Why would a producer have a large door that can't be entered through? Why would Louise's apartment at the end be garish in a largely grey production? These things read like choices...

Of course that depends on Part 2 being as well-received, which having just seen the show for the first time in many years, I'd say is not a sure thing unless they really take advantage of the expanded runtime to make more substantial narrative improvements. I remember when they announced splitting the film thinking that at least will get one movie with a strong ending out of it. Curious to see what Chu will do.

I thought this was good, other than the color grading and the CG animal

In less skint times I would see this early in previews and later on, since seeing Shuffle Along take shape is one of the more interesting Broadway memories I have. Obviously that is not a direct analog to a revival of one of the most established shows in the canon, but I'm sure the production will evolve during previews more than most revivals. I enjoy all the discussion and of course anyone paying these prices has a right to their opinion, but I am looking forward to more thoughtful read

Continuous, they didn't finish Herbie's costume.

I still wince every time I see the shaded logo. Original was iconic.
