re: Julie White returning to the New York stage  Sep 9 2009, 01:25:35 PM
Are they all out? I'm looking now, and there are seats available but they are all marked as full price. I thought the $10 preview deal was all seats, not just a select few.
re: For any PC to MAC converts... what's your story?  Jul 6 2008, 12:47:59 AM
I'd love to hear any other thoughts on iWork vs. Word for Mac. I'm gearing up to make the switch from PC to Mac in a few weeks, and this is the one thing I just have no clue about. After a visit from the Apple store today and a lovely chat with a specialist, I was pretty sold on iWork. Then I came home and started reading reviews and am just as confused as I was before. I'm mostly concerned about compatibility - specifically with Pages. I need to be able to easily open Word documents and send do

re: SAVED first preview cancelled tonight  May 9 2008, 05:17:55 PM
Pending ticket availability, you may re-book your LIVEforFIVE seats for this Sunday (May 11, 2008 ) ONLY for either the matinee (2:30pm) or evening (7:30pm) performance.

How hard is that to understand? As someone said above, the theater is incredibly small. THEN take into account that as this is the first preview weekend, the remaining performances were probably close to sold out to begin with. I don't think they were trying to deceive you in any way, they just have a l

Yeah....except the chance of Ian Barford getting a Best Actor nod is slim to none.
re: According to ATC, In The Heights Matinee was cancelled today  Apr 4 2008, 03:33:34 PM
I don't know exactly what you're implying by "it was a musical," but let's not forget it was also a movie seen by millions of people around the world. I'm sure WSS (the movie) was the only depiction of Puerto Ricans many people were exposed to.

re: Broadway Question referencing the American Dream  Apr 2 2008, 07:26:57 PM
Not on Broadway now, but West Side Story, specifically "America."
re: Possible Next to Normal run at Arena Stages in DC fall 2008  Mar 28 2008, 07:53:45 PM
Am I being totally dense? I don't see anything in that link about a potential run at Arena Stages.
re: Murney, Dossett, Holbrook join Keenan-Bolger in SAVED  Mar 20 2008, 07:03:44 PM
I'm assuming she'll be playing Mary's mother (Mary-Louise Parker's role in the film).
re: Murney, Dossett, Holbrook join Keenan-Bolger in SAVED  Mar 20 2008, 06:48:09 PM
For those who don't go to the link (as I didn't originally) and want to know specific casting for some of the roles:

According to Playwrights Horizons, "In Saved, good girl Mary (Celia Keenan-Bolger) and her domineering best friend Hilary Faye (Mary Faber) are starting their senior year at the top of the social food chain at American Eagle Christian High School — that is, until Mary's boyfriend (Aaron Tveit) tells her he thinks he's gay. When Jesus appears in a vision, and Mary heeds hi

I, too, saw it Off-Broadway and am wondering why people seem to think Usnavi's story should be at the center. This is the second time in a few days I've read this, too. I watched a video interview with Lin-Manuel Miranda the other day and he made it pretty clear that Usnavi's role as narrator/guide was because he works at the bodega, and all the other characters and their stories literally pass through him.

re: Company Commentary Thread  Feb 20 2008, 11:48:05 PM
snl, do you not realize that without the score (especially in relation to Bobby's character), there would be close to zero character development? People complain about him being a cold character to begin with. Without Someone is Waiting, Marry Me a Little and Being Alive, not only would we not understand Bobby, but we wouldn't care about him either. This discussion has nothing to do with this production of Company in particular; we're talking about the material itsel

I don't know where else it's sold, but the Drama Book Shop has it.
re: NYC Ballet. Is it worth going to  Jan 19 2008, 03:53:58 PM
For anyone who is hesitant about the ballet, I would recommend Double Feature at NYCB, which is running January 31st-February 6th. Choreographed by Susan Stroman, it's a full length narrative ballet. Costumes by William Ivey Long; sets by Robin Wagner.

For more info: http://www.nycballet.com/company/rep.html?rep=458

ETA: It was just announced today that they'll be holding two free dress rehearsals.

Double Feature is the first full-length ballet by Broadway phenomenon and five-time Tony Award-winner Susan Stroman. Created in 2004, the ballet is a hilarious homage to the silent movie era set to the grand music of Irving Berlin and Walter Donaldson. Ms. Stroman will be conducting both rehearsals, which are open to the general public. It is a rare opportunity to witness an artist rehearsing and coaching a work of their own making. The rehearsals will feature sets by Broadway great Robin Wagner and costumes by the acclaimed William Ivey Long, and the full NYCB Orchestra.

Act I "The Blue Necklace" can be seen on Wednesday, January 30.
Doors open at 1 pm. Rehearsal begins at 1:15 pm and concludes at 2:30 pm.
Act II "Makin' Whoopee!" can be seen on Thursday, January 31.
Doors open at 1:15 pm. Rehearsal begins at 1:30 pm and concludes at 2:45 pm.

This offer can only be accessed online beginning Monday, January 21, 2008 at 9 am. Go to www.nycballet.com/freedress to place your request. Tickets will be assigned by the Box Office on a first-come, first-served basis. Individuals may order up to 2 tickets for one or both rehearsals. Upon receipt of your ticket request you will receive an immediate email acknowledgment of your order. Dress rehearsal tickets will be mailed to you and you will have assigned seating. There will be no Box Office distribution of tickets. For Wheelchair Locations/Tickets only, call the New York State Theater Box Office at 212-870-5570.

I would assume Dan and the Doctor.

I found it to be really powerful and moving, and with an excellent score. I can't get the songs out of my head!

re: Speculate on the mysterious West Side Story 'concept'  Dec 23 2007, 12:12:47 PM
Would that mean she would sing in Spanish? Or that it would be in English, but just implicit that they don't understand each other?
