Great Tony Awards Performances
 Jan 26 2026, 08:04:04 AM

In 1999, Peter Pan was having a limited run until September at the Gershwin. It was going to close early, with the notice going up the Tuesday after the Tony Awards.  Cathy Rigby flew right at the camera out in the house that night and the line the next morning for tickets was out the door.  We made the full run. Which again, begets the question, what are these people afraid of? You don't have to put a commercial on the super bowl.  But a few well timed ads might actually m

So you've got nothing but strongly biased conjecture here, got it. If you've got something damning, by all means, share it, but absolutely nothing outlined in that article supports what you're alleging or even seems like unreasonable expenditure during an unprecedented and, at the time, indefinite industry shutdown. You're alleging they committed tens of millions of dollars of fraud, so, y'know, you better have something better than a hunch to support it.

No problem, my friend!

How ‘Hamilton’ Got $30 Million in Federal Aid - The New York Times https://share.google/xGhqDHdWIFR7AytDY

This system was put in place for keeping businesses going.  As we know, the show did not pay stagehands, musicians, actors, wardrobe, box office, etc. They kept a small office open to claim they were keeping their business open.  Disgraceful.  Outright theft!

More disgraceful behavior on part of the producers.

Maybe the producers of Hamilton can offer some of the $50M they stole during Covid.  These people are the worst of the worst.

Absolutely.  I get that.  There are 5 other shows on Broadway running right now that have grossed over a billion dollars each worldwide.

And there are plenty others that are having good, successful runs.  It seems a bit more than coincidental that its contract time( the musicians are up as well as AE)  and and these stories are coming out. This is all most likely being done at the direction of the law firm Proskauer-Rose. The world's leadi

Wha??

Do you honestly believe that "lowering salaries" is on the table -- by either side?? Also, contracts are negotiated and signed BEFORE the show starts performances -- so I have no idea why you're bringing "recoupment" (which is a REAL thing) into the equation?

First off, poor raises in contract agreements,  I equate with lower salaries.

Secondly, recoupment is a shell game.  It's

I think the idea is they can pay for a lot of misses and vanity projects. But you can't base pay on anything like that. I'm not suggesting that.  I'm saying you have to look at the overall picture. And if you do, you realize there's plenty of money to spend on labor.  And whatever else you need.

Salaries mean little in terms of success to a successful show.  This is more ridiculousness by the people in charge.  There were 77 productions this season.  If every time a restaurant falls, should we discuss lowering their salaries? We can play this game for every single business in every single sector.  Some businesses fail, some succeed. If you cant succeed paying decent wages across the board, you fail.  And you should fail. It's really that simple.

NYT: The Broadway Musical Is in Trouble
 Sep 22 2025, 04:23:45 PM

As I posted to the author in the Times, grosses and audiences are at all time highs. Maybe we don't need 77 shows per season. A successful show can pay the appropriate salaries  quite easily, and the vast majority of flops would still flop if all labor took a 20% cut. The truth is, the successful shows make so much money, the producers are willing to flood the market in search of their next elusive hit. And when the show flops they get to claim the Broadway model doesn'

It is absolutely valid and necessary to use anecdotal details to craft strategies to address different types of crime. However, only statistical analysis can support a claim like "New York has gotten less safe over the past five years.""

IT appears felony assault has been on the rise for quite some time in NYC. IT's up about 50% in the last 11 years, or so. And a huge jump in the past 2-3 years.

How to Fix the Broadway Model
 Jan 18 2024, 05:42:06 PM

Some of these shows have grossed billions. Just because many restaurants don't make it doesn't mean the model is bad. Same with writing books. Tons of people don't make any money writing books.  But if you hit that nerve, you can be rich. Same with restaurants. Broadway is a tough nut to crack. I'm certainly not implying it's easy to succeed.  But, let's not worry about giving financial breaks to the rich on the backs of the working people involved.  Bec

How to Fix the Broadway Model
 Jan 18 2024, 09:16:23 AM

Don't kid yourselves.  If the model was broken, producers wouldn't be lining up to get in.  It's mostly their own greed that's hurting things. For example we know that small plays can struggle.  Rather than cutting costs, how about bringing fewer in simultaneously? And the outrageous ticket prices.  The big shows can't possibly carry on if they are netting $1 million dollars a week instead of $1.2 million?Things of that nature.  They eat their own.
