Patrick Wilson at 52 Dec 24 2025, 02:14:16 PM
When he introduced The Music Man at the Tonys in 2022, I remember thinking right then and there that, if the production were to continue after Jackman and Foster left, Wilson had the perfect charm and and the right presence needed for Harold Hill; it's kind of a shame that didn't happen, if only for yet another missed opportunity to get him back onstage. Hopefully something materializes for him in the near future.

Off-Broadway experiences -2025/2026 Dec 20 2025, 01:56:21 PM
My personal Off-Broadway highlights: - Liberation
- Ghosts at Lincoln Center
- We Had A World
- Eurydice
- Sexual Misconducts of the Middle Class (both for the play itself and the fact that it was one of those rare occasions where I won the lottery for tickets)
- Bat Boy (easily my favorite production at City Center this year)
- Gruesome Playground Injuries
- Master

Most suspenseful play you've seen? Dec 14 2025, 01:57:39 PM
njguy2 said: "Medea with Fiona Shaw"
I would also say Medea, though mine would be the BAM production with Rose Byrne and Bobby Cannavale. On a similar note, I would add current production of Oedipus. The fact that both were more of a modernization added to this - of course I knew what tragic end the story was heading toward, but it was how it would play out in each context that kept me engaged. With Medea, it was waiting until Anna (B

Nicholas Braun & Kara Young in GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES Nov 20 2025, 04:18:55 PM
With this opening today, I figured I share my opinion after seeing last night's performance; first time seeing it, as well, having vague memories of hearing about it when it premiered in 2007 or so.
I found it to be a charming little play with a bittersweet undertone and a morbid sense of humor (in other words, my favorite kind of humor). In addition to great direction, Braun and Young are both wonderful and their chemistry is just terrific. It might not be for every

Tom Hanks to lead self-written play THIS WORLD OF TOMORROW at The Shed Nov 9 2025, 08:03:24 PM
Cheesecake2 said: "Anyone see this yet? I’m not going for another two weeks"
I got to see this two Fridays ago - it was only the second preview, so I won't go into too much detail (though I'm not sure what, if anything, they might have changed or would change since then).
Simply put: I found it to be sweet but a bit slight. It's unsurprisingly a very science-fiction heavy play, both in the plot and in the stage design, most of wh

Broadway Dreams Sep 4 2025, 04:25:06 PM
The only specific production that comes to mind for me is a new revival of Twelve Angry Men, particularly one with Kyle MacLachlan as Juror #8 (I actually have a full dream cast list for a hypothetical production, but I won't inundate the thread with that). I first came across the play when we read it aloud in drama class my freshman year of high school and have since seen both film adaptations; I've never seen a live production, so that is certainly on my theatre-t

Future of the August Wilson Theater Aug 7 2025, 02:44:17 PM
No insider info here, but if Dolly: A True Original Musical is still on track for a 2026 Broadway bow, as of right now, the August Wilson is the only ATG venue available. Again, just speculation.
(Edited with the correct title. Thank you to everyone for pointing that out.)

Encores! 2026 Update? Jun 25 2025, 05:02:30 PM
KevinKlawitter said: "Taylor Trensch is Bat Boy"
I had Jeremy Jordan/a Jeremy Jordan type on the mind, and it wound up being his recent co-star. Funny how the universe works like that sometimes.
After mulling over some other Bat Boy casting, I am loving the idea of Kerry Butler moving up to Meredith. Also, Brian D'Arcy James strikes me as another potential great Dr Taylor. Also also, not sure how it might work out in terms of scheduling or contracts, but Gracie Lawrence could be an excellent Shelley (she's already working in an Alex Timbers-directed production).
Just figured I put all that out into the universe.

Pure Shakespeare: Liev Schreiber Makes lago His Own Jun 17 2025, 09:45:41 PM
I always love it when the powers that be dig into their archives and make these things public. I've only ever read about this production (I was only 8 when it was staged), so it was cool to see portions of it in action. And, of course, hearing Schreiber's thoughts on his process was intriguing.

Encores! 2026 Update? Jun 11 2025, 08:10:02 PM

It seems odd to me to have this as the show for the gala. The article mentioned new orchestrations but I'm assuming this will not be taking advantage of the full orchestra but at max maybe 10 musicians and that even seems like a lot."
I was just thinking about this recently. Don't get me wrong, I have been wanting for a major Bat Boy revival ever s

Encores! 2026 Update? Jun 6 2025, 01:23:41 PM
They did claim that LaChiusa's The Wild Party was being moved to the 2026 season. If that's still the case (which, hopefully, it is - it's one of many shows I've been dying to see a production of for some time) then we at least know 1 of their upcoming offerings.

Personal Non-Eligible "Should Have Been Nominated" List (2025) May 23 2025, 08:41:33 PM
I did one of these last year, as well. I don't think I'm going to do this regularly, but for now, why not?
I should like to specify that A) I am going by the eligibility dates for this past Broadway season (any off-Broadway production that opened from April 29, 2024 to April 27, 2025), and B) I am choosing not to nominate anything that will be eligible at next year's Tonys - and when I state "anything", I of course mean Ragtime.

Have You Left at Intermission? Apr 20 2025, 02:48:37 PM
The only professional production I've abandoned was Harry Townsend's Last Stand a few years ago; it wasn't very good and Len Cariou seemed to be struggling with his lines.
I also, about two or three years ago, left a community theatre production of Nine at intermission; I wasn't interested in going in the first place, it was poorly performed and directed, and was being staged in a blackbox theatre which was completely the w

Next Daniel Radcliffe Apr 9 2025, 11:50:48 PM
I’m only going off of limited information/the original cast album, so I’m not sure about the quality of the show itself - but I’ve always wanted to see a production of Stop the World - I Want to Get Off (perhaps as a future Encores! production). I feel like Radcliffe could handle the score and, no doubt, that show would need a name to really sell it.
Other than that, if I remember correctly, he’s expressed interest in working on a new musical.

Memorable Moments on Stage in 2024? Dec 29 2024, 04:44:34 PM
Just chiming in with my additional 7th choice.
Admittedly, I'm not surprised it slipped my mind since I found every moment of Three Houses enchanting, helped greatly by Dave Malloy's addictive music. But looking back on it, Sadie's New Mexico story sticks with me the most. Two particular moments stand out for me: - 'Put the quarter in/Push, push, push/Nothing comes out' (might paraphrasing the lyrics slightly, but that

Memorable Moments on Stage in 2024? Dec 28 2024, 10:51:47 PM
6 personal ones for me: - All of the musical moments in Stereophonic. In addition to just being a good play, everything about that show was what I go to the theater for; it took a setting that (to my knowledge) hasn't been depicted onstage before and the result was the perfect definition of a play with music - it all blended together so well, with neither overpowering the other

- Uncle Vanya at Lincoln Center

What notable shows did you MISS? Dec 22 2024, 02:29:17 PM
I still occasionally kick myself for missing the 2018 revival Three Tall Women.
I was kicking myself most of this year for missing Dead Outlaw, but thankfully I'll have my chance in a few months.

CULT OF LOVE Previews Nov 23 2024, 05:02:56 PM
Just got back from the matinee and wanted to chime in. As I mentioned in a previous thread, I had been waiting a few years to finally see a production of this play - it was well worth the wait. I found it to be well-written, funny in all the right places, not heavy-handed, and incredibly well performed (and sung) by the ensemble.
