About this Performance
A global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for decades, Jesus Christ Superstar is a timeless work that explores the biblical portrayal of the extraordinary events that led to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ as seen through the eyes of his betrayer, Judas Iscariot. The story, told entirely through song, explores the personal relationships and st

Can’t say she naturally embodies the goodwill the character is known for, but we may be surprised yet!
Get Jinkx for Mary and just watch every conservative literally explode.

I heard she's playing prophet Muhammad in "Keir Starmer the Musical" so she might not be available.

Time for a quick trip to La La Land for me!
All jokes aside, I'm glad the Bowl is bringing the musicals back in such a big way. The slow demise of them over the past 5 years was sad to watch.

This strange thread of responses aside, I think this is really exciting. She’s definitely got the pipes.

I remember back in the day when it'd be more like: "Cynthia Erivo? Jesus..."
Not that anyone was waiting for me to weigh in, but... I'm keeping an open mind on this one.
(If anything, the whole thing only comes as a shock to me because I have my finger on the pulse of JCS gossip more than most and I had all the pieces of this, but no idea it was coming in one package. I had been hearing separately that Sergio Trujillo was working on a major revival and that a new production was coming down the pike with a female Jesus for over a year. Interesting to see it all in one place!)

She’s so full of herself already , so playing Jebus shouldn’t be a stretch. As stewie Griffin once said “ My, my, what a thumping good read. Lions eating Christians, people nailing each other to 2x4s. I say, you won't find that in Winnie the Pooh”

Judas is the juicier role but you know how things are these days.
Erivo may be an annoying personality but there's no denying she is a fantastic performer and will kill this.

It's not a movie, it's a production running for three days at the Hollywood Bowl

This. I don't understand the hate for Erivo, who has done nothing but exceptional work in New York and simply killed in the Wicked film. Yes, the Great Comet debacle was embarrassing for everyone involved, but it doesn't take away from her talent. I'd argue she's the best singer of her (which also happens to be my...) generation.
I've already booked a trip to LA for the Cowboy Carter tour, but when I told my husband about this performance, he immediately started looking into going back in August. I certainly have no complaints.
I am a bit annoyed with the LA Phil/Bowl/Whoever. I've had a season subscription for 8+ years that has always included the musical on the first Friday. I was once again set to have it this year. Then, after the Erivo announcement, they switched around our dates and it no longer includes this show. I can't help but think it's because of the money they'll make with the high demand. Understandable from a business sense, but gross and disappointing.
I would see Cynthia Erivo in anything. I’d see Christine Ebersole in anything. I care most about the art. It’s not even about ‘forgiving’ them it’s just simply being so focussed on the actual art that you don’t really think about anything else.
