Re: Prince’s PURPLE RAIN opening at the Majestic in April

Aug 2, 2026 — 6:24:28 PM

I have posted a bunch of times that I am not a fan anymore of jukebox musicals. That being said, I would love the music of this show. The problem with 80% of these type of musicals is the book. In addition, as others have posted, the star has to be incredibly multi-talented to pull it off. I would love to see it be a success but unfortunately, I have my doubts.

A friend works on P!nk’s team and asked her directly and there’s zero truth to her and Willow doing NEXT TO NORMAL and yes, she’s aware of this thread. 😝😝😝"Good to hear. No offense to Pink, she is talented lady. I just think like many others she is a better fit for show like Chicago.

Pink would be a huge get, I just hope the production lives up to her talents, and is able to get a great acting performance out of her. I’d certainly rather see Pink win the Tony than Rachel Zegler."Got better idea. Try to get Caisse Levy who starred in revival on the West End and received excellent reviews. Pink is total unknown when it comes to acting and this role is v...

Fred Mason said: "It’s happening, I’m told from a big producer"Having seen and loved the original with Alice Ripley, this would be awful idea. This show needs an accomplished actress due to it is a demanding role. If it was going to be revived on Broadway it should be London transfer of the show IMO.

Chez Joey

CoffeeBreak said: "I don't see this one coming back to NYC. It's probably best it shifts to regional theaters across the country. It was fine in DC but not much better than at City Center. At Arena Stage it was in a smaller space but still mid, at best."Ok. Was interested in this show due to Savion Glover being choreographer and Myles Frost starring in it.

Reception seemed mixed at best, which I guess is better than the unmitigated disaster that was on stage at City Center a few years ago.It would need a major star (or two or three) to raise the money and sustain sales long enough to recoup. The last commercially-produced Broadway revival to recoup in New Yorkwithout a star was PIPPIN, which opened more than 13 years ago. Or Jeffrey Richards would need to give it up to a nonprofit."See below from artic...

Will Chez Joey (Pal Joey) make it to Broadway in 2027? I read it had successful tryout in Washington D.C. earlier this year.

Jay Lerner-Z said: "“Stunt casting" isn't putting the likes of Ana Gasteyer, Carol Kane, Rue McClanahan, Ben Vereen etc. They're perfectly capable proper actors who happen to be somewhat well known. It's not casting untalented famous people because proper stage actors aren’t available either. It's showing a complete disregard for talent or quality or suitability for the role, exploiting celebrity for dollars. It’s what Chicago does. I don’t believe Wicked have ever been guilty of it." Agree 100...

She would probably be good in "Chicago" which is what she did on Tony Awards show.

Spotted Celebrities in Audience

Everyone posting in this thread is quite lucky. I have never seen a celebrity at any show I attended even shows I was only a couple of rows from the stage.

Jordan Catalano said: "Shaggy is in it and I’m so confused by his presence. Was this character in the original? It seems a completely pointless character in the show and was the one thing I was greatly confused by."Shaggy has toured and recorded with Sting, so he probably wanted to find some role for him in the show. Sadly, it appears there is really no reason for his character.
