Re: Tim Rice's Diary: My new show with Andrew Lloyd Webber | The Spectator
Wonder if it's to use in something else, as it seems to be standard for him. Wasting 12 good tunes in a regional production doesnt seem very him.

Re: Nicholas Hytner to direct HISTORY BOYS revival on West End
So it's a remount then? It could do with a new director, and some work on the icky-p***o-teacher focus that barely scraped though in 2004 let alone now.

It was coupled with the Von Trapp family encouraging the audience to sing Edelweiss with them (which the audience have been waiting to sing along all night), be...
Re: Phantom/ALW Demos?!
Obviously just a promo for the new release of the album. I am very interested by them saying it reinstates cut music that was removed to make it fit on LP/CD before - there are some very audible harsh cuts on the releases so far - be very interesting to hear it, although why its taken until 2026 to go back to the master multi-tracks, when Sunset/Aspects/Starlight were done in the mid 2000s - with material reinstated. Adding POTO would have made more commercial sense?ALW has a mammoth archive ...
Re: Deaf West Revival of Whistle Down the Wind
Definitely whistle. Aspects ate Ann Crumbs foot but the Whistle highway crushed the actors regularly, Heath and Safety Executive were involved, and Dean Collinson was severely injured and had a payout years after the show closed. There’s a very old thread on here with more information from people who worked on the show about the regularity of the incidents. "The entire stage floor was a big fake tarmac surface, like a motorway. Most of the time it was used just as a floor. During the train tu...

Re: Deaf West Revival of Whistle Down the Wind
The Original London production was VERY troubled - that multi-storey set with the freeway regularly crushed performers, leading to court cases with RUG and big payouts. Almost certainly didn't make profits, and stymied its transfer to Broadway.

US citizens/tourists could well get confused thinking its an actual game of chess (ew don't like chess), not a musical (yeh man I like musicals)

Fun fact - Anders Eljas also was one of the orchestrators for Carrie (I'd love to know which bits - did he do theincrediblebombastic orchestrations for Eve Was Weak, or was that Michael Starobin?).)."Stratford was solely Eljas, and Eve was Weak is Wagnerian and only slightly different to Broadway - I'd say Starobin was responsible for just tweaking Eve for Broadway, whereas other songs like Do Me a Favour were totally reorchestrated, Elljas had a strange electronic 80s weirdne...
Phantom of the Opera Returns!
Flyboy_46259 said: "I The greatest shame is that there is no official high quality recording of the production. "There are several, just not totally in the public domain. Theres several proshots of London at least held by CamMac/RUG, large chunks of which were released on the POTO film DVD as extras in the documentary, and the OLC has a large amount of filmed footage.
What happens to the legacy of old shows?
Theres not a central repository - but dedicated researchers could probably crib together a replica of the BIG shows from photos, archive material, newspapers, press kits, later productions filling in the blanks, ie the university replica of the OBC Oklahoma. But with cast members passing on, it would be much harder to do. I'd say you could probably put on a replica OBC Carrie currently as theres enough material in existence, and cast members, but putting on a replica Darling of the Day would ...

UK Theatre Criticized For
People do walk into the stage version and have no idea that it has a different script to the film, with a different tone, and has those two 'nasty' little satirical songs in, and seeing real people dressed up as stormtroopers and saluting Hitler has a VERY different effect in person than on a grainy film. The Palladium/ALW show for instance turns the entire auditorium into a Nazi rally with swastikas dropping down from the ceiling and the audience held at gunpoint.Of course there needs to be ...

Why Have We Only Had One Broadway Revival of THE SOUND OF MUSIC?
The film rewrite does wonders for the material - which isn't the best book. The London revivals have always had something else going for them - the 80s version had PETULA CLARK never missing a performance, and using the aisle of the Apollo Victoria as the church (it was a MASSIVE production), and the 2000s version had an Andrew Lloyd Webber TV show winner in the lead. That production also had the most magnificent piece of staging for the final song festival. As we joined the Von Trapps on stage...
