Re: PARANORMAL ACTIVITY Reviews

Aug 25, 2026 — 10:55:38 PM

Saw this in Chicago last Halloween night. One of the most fun and unforgettable nights at the theater I’ve had. Legit scary. The play itself is barely better than it needs to be, but the shared audience experience can’t be beat. Intermission was a blast with seat neighbors calling each other out for their audible gasps and involuntary profanities. This could be a huge hit. I hope to see it again. I still can’t get over that one scene. IYKYK. Probably the most effective illusion on Broadway si...

"...Ding ding ding! Was just announced on Morning Joe, Betty Gilpin takes over for an 8 week run."What do I win???Interesting but inspired choice. Would love to hear the behind-the-scenes story of the casting process.Gilpin is an incredible actress, truly underrated. Hope this pushes her career forward.

Matthew Broderick & David Cross to co-star off-Broadway in new TARTUFFE written by Lucas Hnath

Tart-uff. This was a slog. It’s a good adaptation of a great play, the cast is game, but it suffers from a lack of direction and momentum. The pace is lackadaisical with unnecessary interstitial music and pointless scene change “choreography” killing the mood. This should have been faster and shorter. The flat lighting and amateurish set don’t do anything to enhance or distract from the tedium.Matthew Broderick is surprisingly good, mostly because he’s making strong choices and giving his cla...

THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES To Close January 4, 2026

We gave into our morbid curiosity and saw it. (Our plan landed early, we had time to kill before check in, and the line at TKTS was short.)I definitely liked parts of it and will probably spend a lot of mental energy trying to figure out how/if it could be salvaged. This reminded me of Cruise Ship Kander and Ebb.The show just kept moving from bit to bit to keep the tone from getting too dark or the irony from getting too thick. There were several throwaway moments that could have hit hard, but...

Slam Frank's Blatantly Anti-Semitic IG Post

Agreed This thread and the whole situation is depressing. Those that choose polarization over progress, that act in bad faith rather than try to understand, that jump to whatever conclusion confirms their agenda… stop it. Get right with your own beliefs and spare us the reactionary discourse. There is a lot of evil in the world. Anti-semtism exists. Extremism of all types exists. Musical theater creators doing a bad post and then taking it down is not that. I’m seeing this show tonight, and I ...

Reviews are dropping. I wouldn’t say this is anti-Semitic, more an untimely and unnecessary attempt to poke fun at the type of person that would respond to this terrorism with “decolonize Australia.” I get the irony, but in this context I don’t really want to. I also respect anyone that finds this disqualifying or offensive. Oof. Bad marketing. I have tickets to see this on Wednesday. I’m still going. (Jordan’s recommendation means a lot.)

Michelle Williams navigates a problematic classic in ‘Anna Christie’ at St.

Sara Holdren is a relative rave.https://www.vulture.com/article/theater-review-anna-christie-oneill-michelle-williams-tom-sturridge-thomas-kail.html“That stuff’s all right there, both on the page and vibrating in the performances. At the same time, there’s a refreshing lack of attention being drawn to it here. Perhaps it’s a function of letting celebrity alone to do the work of getting butts in seats (across from Williams,

I said what I said. I’ll save it for another thread unless I’m too lazy to post it.It’s a bad movie. The poor word of mouth and steep drop in box office is a good indication. My adolescent nieces all said “not impressed.” I laughed my way through it. Pure camp.

Thanks, Eric. You are spot on, per usual. I was totes wrong about BW playing in New York prior to the recent revival. I didn’t do the math… or the research. Chalk it up to the Mandela Effect. W:FG is not good. It’s actively bad, and I think will be viewed as a stain on the legacy of the musical overall. The new songs from Schwartz are unfortunately part of that. (Even though the actresses perform them so well they almost sound like Sondheim.)it wasn’t my intention to overlook Children of Eden...

QoV will close the same day as the Off Broadway revival of Baker’s Wife, which will have played almost as many performances. I haven’t done the math, but if you include the previews of the original Broadway production of Baker’s Wife, it will have been performed in New York almost as much, if not more, than QoV.At least Schwartz will always have Wicked (and Pippin and Godspell). Between this and the fallout from Wicked: For Good, 2025 is not the career victory lap that was expected.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I have never seen this many old men with bad plastic surgery in one room. Is this a White House ceremony or Liberace’s last orgy?
