Angels In America/Berkeley Rep Reviews.

May 9, 2018 — 5:27:12 PM

I saw this last weekend, and it was absolutely thrilling and fantastical. The acting and direction was incredible. I had read the entire play and seen the first part of the HBO special. For me, this felt like the definitive version.

Hamilton - Where Next

Dec 21, 2017 — 5:20:32 PM

Isn't LMM bringing Hamilton to Puerto Rico? I wonder if that will be a national tour stop or a separate production.

Hamilton in San Francisco

Aug 7, 2017 — 8:22:56 PM

I saw the closing night of Hamilton in SF (my 3rd time seeing it). The dancing and ensemble work was sublime. I'm also glad I got to see Michael Luwoye again as Hamilton. His portrayal was so fiery and emotional. He has really captured the richness and complexities of the role. And his breakdown in "Quiet Uptown" just killed me. The whole cast was in (except for Joshua Henry) and was in excellent form. Ryan Alvarado was Burr. I'm sorry to be negative, but he was totally miscast. He simply did...

Monsoon wedding

May 23, 2017 — 8:49:41 PM

I saw Monsoon Wedding last weekend, and I really enjoyed it. The show has a lot of heart and a strong narrative with many unforgettable characters. I loved most of the performances, particularly the three main female characters and the wedding planner. I also appreciate that most of the creative team is Indian, which gave the show an authenticity and richness that transports the audience to urban India. Despite all of these positives, the show still needs some work before it goes to Broadway....

What do people think about Harry Potter Casting

Dec 21, 2015 — 8:22:11 PM

This really shouldn't be a big deal. It's seems like Americans are obsessed with this news item because racism is still so deeply ingrained in our society. It's quite sad.

Hello Young Lovers

Jun 27, 2015 — 11:47:58 AM

I saw both Donna Murphy and Kelli O'Hara in the role. In my humble opinion, while O'Hara is a flawless vocalist, her acting was rather bland and devoid of character. Murphy, on the other hand, struggled with some musical aspects of the role, most notably in the above-mentioned song, but her acting and characterization were sublimely rich and multi-layered. For me, she's the definitive Mrs. Anna.

Plays/musicals due for a revival

Jun 19, 2015 — 8:12:59 PM

My Fair Lady Damn Yankees (Jane Krakowski should star) Kiss of the Spider Woman (I think Catherine Zeta Jones would be great in this) City of Angels Brigadoon A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Casey Nicholaw could direct) Oklahoma Carousel Hello Again (though I don't think it would realistically be done on Broadway)

Hedwig Tour

I did a search. And nothing came up. Sorry...

Hedwig Tour

Jun 2, 2015 — 3:07:02 PM

I just got a notice from SHNSF that Hedwig is coming to San Francisco in October 2016. They haven't announced who's starring. Still so excited! https://www.shnsf.com/Online/default.asp?BOparam::WScontent::loadArticle::permalink=hedwigandtheangryinch&BOparam::WScontent::loadArticle::context_id=

Little Night Music replacement cast rumors

Apr 13, 2010 — 7:55:26 PM

Dame Edna as Mme. Armfeldt would be priceless! Seriously though, I don't have any rumors. But after seeing her performance in A Single Man, I think Julianne Moore would make a lovely Desiree. I would also love to see Cate Blanchett take a stab at it.

ALNM Souvenir Program?

Apr 13, 2010 — 5:17:59 PM

I hope it's not going to be a limited printing like the Sweeney Todd programs. Those are impossible to get and were never available online.

ALNM Souvenir Program?

Apr 13, 2010 — 5:07:52 PM

I'm sorry if this information has been covered somewhere else. Does anyone know if they have made a souvenir program for the current revival of A Little Night Music? Is it available anywhere online? Many thanks!

re: Sam Mendes SWEENEY TODD- What Might Have Been?

Dec 22, 2007 — 11:33:04 AM

I actually think that Gary Oldman would have been a great Sweeney. Does he sing at all? Overall, I really liked the film, but I must admit that Depp's singing was a bit weak for my taste, and he acting was very good, but his persona didn't have the girth and rage required for the role. "Epiphany" felt a bit too choreographed. Depp should have been busting at the seams, but instead made his anger very contained. Helena Bonham Carter was very lovely and had some poignant moments, but down playe...

re: Get tickets now for Young Frankenstein

Aug 20, 2007 — 5:47:34 PM

I don't really care if I'm toward the back. I just want to be able to see the whole stage and not from an extreme overhead angle. Overall, I'm really excited to see the show. I remember seeing The Producers when it first came out. The original cast really made it worth it. I'm not really a Mel Brooks fan, but I really love Young Frankenstein. I can't wait to see how it has been adapted to the stage.

Has anyone sat in the front balcony at the Hilton? I know it's an enormous theater. I've sat in balcony in smaller houses, and I found myself looking at the tops of their heads and couldn't even see their faces. I hope that this is not the case at the Hilton, since I have row A balcony seats.
