I've seen people purchase tickets at the box office before. Just show up 7:45pm (it might be cash only, I can't recall.)

Standing room is only offered if the show has ZERO (not one or two) seats remaining at this theater. Per the friendly people at the box office, this is most likely to happen at Saturday afternoon/evening performances. This is probably my favorite show of 2016, so it's worth it to try back a few times before you finally get it (like me!)

They usually open their box office between 15 and 30 minutes prior to curtain, so you can purchase tickets there if you like.

Because the performance was not 100% sold out today (looked like less than 10 tickets remained unsold per Ticketmaster), no standing room was offered for the Sunday 3pm matinee. A lot of funny & also poignant moments when everyone comes over to West Philly to celebrate Christmas. The grandmother has a potty mouth, the two men are having marital problems and are arguing over things like a juice cleanse regimen, one of the daughters shows up in a tight miniskirt and has a diva attitude, etc. Lots of family bickering. One of the nicest sets I've ever seen at the Vineyard - a beautiful & very well-detailed yellow kitchen. What a gorgeous Christmas tree appears in Act II ...

Take the box office number with you so they can help guide you to the place - I know the one time I went I got totally turned around and walked around in the wrong direction for over 45 minutes. But is this something you really want to do? With a subway ride + wait for a suburban train that runs only once and hour + 45 minute ride, it can be up to 3 hours each way for many people. Most shows there are of "regional" quality, the theater is a huge barn with terrible sightlines if you're seated ...

Absolutely a dreadful experience. Word of mouth is spreading - everyone I talked to knows just how bad this is. And when I mean bad, I mean BAD.

This was one of my favorite off-Broadway shows when I saw it at the St Luke's Theater, so I'm very surprised to read different feedback about the Broadway version. Seth Rudetsky and Mary Testa, along with the rest of the hard-working cast had me laughing along and loving every minute of it. There are certainly many visually striking elements, an avant-garde burlesque feel, and very talented performers (including a woman in the second act who is spinning around and around in a hoop). But the show felt overlong (started an embarrassing 11 minutes late, had a very lengthy 20 minute intermission). I definitely enjoyed it. It takes place in the 1960s and shows how a tough guy from the Bronx gets accepted into a prestigious high school away from home. He excels at some subjects but keeps his tough-guy attitude with him and frequently gets into fights, steals things, etc. One big question is: will he actually graduate (does he have the proper "values" to graduate)? It's a very weird, fun, over-the-top piece that I think most theatergoers will highly enjoy. 17 characters appear on stage, in classy colorful outfits that look like they came from Banana Republic. Men sunbathing, a rhinoceros walking across the stage, one of the most elaborately choreographed fight scenes I've ever seen (which goes on for a very long & entertaining time!), two men showering in their speedos, men dancing and eating birthday cake, a huge birthday present carried onto the stage...

A few fun moments in Act II where you have the queen in drag and the wedding, but overall way too long. Would have worked far better as a 90 minute show with major cuts to the plot, but more songs. Was an exhausting evening in the theater. Not recommended.

Broadway: School of RockOff-Broadway: Clever Little Lies

Was hoping for a good mix of Duncan Sheik music, but we only got 10-15 minutes worth out of the 2 hour 20 minute show. I loved Tonya Pinkins in Rasheeda Speaking (what a fun show that was), but this show came across as a slog and a bore (and hard to follow). The rest of the cast was "uneven" (to put it kindly). Rush starts today at a price of $37, compared to the $25 lottery price. Yesterday they said the lottery may be brought back after the holiday season sometime in January. I'm guessing holiday traffic is too high in the area for a lottery the next few weeks, so perhaps the rush is a temporary thing.

Usually, 2ST does great work. However, this show was a vanity project and was a bore from start to finish. Felt false and phony, and almost 2 hours with no intermission. A real torture to sit through.

(Mild spoilers ahead:) I thought the set was clean/crisp at times to evoke the futuristic/artificial intelligence mindset, and did so beautifully. The daughter did what she did since she was simply heartbroken; it goes along with the reason of the title of the play. Superbly acted, and a very touching emotional play.

This show has finally come to NYC after being a bit hit in Washington DC for years and years. Without giving too much away, this is an audience-participation type of murder mystery who-done-it. So pay VERY close attention to everything that happens in the first 30 minutes (who enters, who leaves, who touches what, etc). Lois Smith is one of my favorite actresses and it's always a treat to see her, especially in an intimate off-Broadway theater. Without giving too much away, the show has a very sci-fi feel to it and deals with pain, loss and how people choose to cope with those losses. Just when you think you know the twist about 45 minutes in, along comes another big twist about 10 minutes before the show ends. I didn't enjoy it at all. This felt like a national tour with cheap tacky low-budget scenery, no charisma between the cast members, and music that was so loud that you missed the fine nuances of the songs. Several years ago, I loved "Shout: The Mod Musical" put on by Amas Musical Theater; that was a fun musical with a great cast. Sadly, this was quite bad. Let's just say there were many empty seats after intermission. There will be a closing notice by January 3rd.
