I think that if Barbies (the dolls) were real, this is what they would sing about. Hilarious. I never thought I would hear someone singing the words "omigod you guys." Seriously though, this song makes me think of a Barbie commercial.

Oh, indeed I have seen it. In my dreams. Well, to the best of my knowledge, that date is correct. I didn't think you meant to imply she looked older...I just had to state that I think she looks damn good. Because she does. hehe

nobodyhome - Her birthday is listed correctly on imdb. She is indeed 57 and looks damn good.

Wildcard - I'm one of the Patti fanatics who will admit that she's not perfect, right for every role, etc... We do exist. hehe

And I echo Rath's sentiments on what she felt after seeing Patti at Sweeney.

Dear God,
If you love me, please let Patti LuPone do this show, so that I can have the dream of seeing her act, sing, dance, play the tuba and rollerskate all at the same time come true.
Love,
HC

I just got a mental image of Patti skating across stage with her tuba. Thanks for that! hahaha

I'd love to see what Patti would do with the role when given more time and preparation.

The clips that are out there don't do her performance justice at all, in my opinion. I saw both the Saturday and Sunday performances from up close orchestra seats. Patti was absolutely wonderful. The energy in the audience was electric, and all the people I was with loved her performance. The show far exceeded my expectations, since I knew it would not be a fully mounted production. Also, after seeing Gypsy, I read a couple interviews where Patti said she read Gypsy's and June's memoirs and

I have a great interview for you to read, and she talks about the surgery she had on her vocal cords... Go here - http://www.lct.org/calendar/platform_detail.cfm?id_event=23918230 It's from a few years ago, but it's fabulous. Enjoy!

BTW, Kel, it's Heather from the Myspace group. :) Hi!

I got to see Sweeney from the front row, center on Thursday. It was AMAZING!!!! I got looks from the entire cast. Mano pointed his bow at me twice...it was inches in front of my face! Patti looked right at me at curtain call and gave me a wicked smile/look. She was sweet at the stage door. She rememberd me and said, "You were in the front row!" So nice...I have a pic, but I can't post it yet...will when I get home to Florida!

Tom - I think a good director can draw brilliant things out of an actor. No one would argue that. But the actor is the one performing on stage every night.

I agree with what Kel said, for sure. She does have an "aura" about her. When she is on stage, my eyes seem to be magnetically drawn to her. Her every move oozes stage presence and charisma. She's captivating. And the voice...I love her voice. It's rich, versatile, and unique. And personally, she inspires me.

Have you ever seen her perform live, Bettyboy? That is my recommendation! :)

I'm doing a long road trip to Ravinia. I believe Mapquest told me it was around 1300 miles. Eeek! I would fly, but it's hurricane season. I'm not taking the (small) chance of there being a storm and the airports closing.

SeptemberKel - I *almost* bought tickets for July 2nd. I'm glad I waited because it would have been a lot more money to extend my trip. Oh, the things we do to see Patti!

Yeah, I'm in South Florida...going to see Patti is quite expensive, but worth it. I'm seeing Sweeney one week from today, hooray! And then we're crazy and driving 21 hours to see Gypsy. She's doing a concert in Key West in January, so I'm excited for that. It's 3 hours from me.

I'm moving to New York in January, and I can't wait...

Not a big role in Driving Miss Daisy. The whole movie revolves around Miss Daisy and Hoke. Patti's southern accent is amusing though. :)

I say get the first season of Life Goes On. Wonderful show, all around!

Patti doesn't run her myspace. I wrote to the email on her official website. Telecharge still says July 2nd as well, which is why I wrote to ask her directly.

I posted this on the Patti appreciation thread, but I'll put it here too. I emailed Patti to ask about her contract, and I received this response back from her over the weekend. "Yes, I've extended my contract with a few absences for other performances. I'm in it until Thanksgiving."

Ah, I adore her lips! Beautiful.

And just restating in case anyone missed further up where I or Chica posted...I did get an email from Patti this weekend saying she renewed her contract until Thanksgiving.

Okay, so I got an email back from Patti regarding her contract for Sweeney. This is, verbatim from the email, what she had to say: "Yes, I've extended my contract with a few absences for other performances. I'm in it until Thanksgiving." So there is the answer. July 2nd will not be her last show.

I called Telecharge yesterday to ask them if they knew if Patti extended her contract or not. They said they still don't know. They told me they can't tell me when they'll know. Whatever! So I sent Patti an email to ask her. I'll report back if/when she responds. I've heard lots of rumors, but I'm not going to believe anything unless she says it.
