Girl's gotta eat, and I doubt anyone's knocking down her door with offers to do anything else.

What other roles can you see her playing?
Some that come to mind:
• Trix the Aviatrix
• Oda Mae Brown
• Sofia from Color Purple
Loretta Devine must be rolling her eyes and laughing her ass off.
Something on Glee or Smash would be cute, but temporary.
Robbie, how dare you even suggest that! LOL
I would kill my ninety-year-old grandmother to watch J-Ho bring her sledgehammer-like subtlety to "Lot's Wife".
Well...I wasn't making a value judgment on how she'd be. But it is an age-appropriate role, and a role worthy of a Tony-winning Best Actress.
Perhaps, if given the chance, she'd surprise us all!

Yeah but she'd have to learn a new part. She can play Effie with her eyes closed by this time. I bet she shows up one day before showtime for a walk through, brings her own costumes and a twenty-two page tour rider.

She was doing gospel plays and gay bar performances. I guess she has now come full circle.

Even Carol knew when to let go of Dolly.

What's so unsettling to me is how in denial she see seems to be. She implied before her MUNY performances that she's better in the role now than she was when she was actually age appropriate.

How is Caroline an age-appropriate role for Jennifer Holliday? Caroline is referenced in the script as being 39, and Holliday is 52.
You mean Effie wasn't a 50-something year old middle aged woman?
I hope Sandra Church plays Louise in the next GYPSY revival!

Hey you never know, the breakdown might change seeing as so many theatres want her in the role.

The Channing reference was a joke right? She played Dolly until they pried it from her cold, dead fingers.
Well...yes, she's not 39. But she could pass for a beat-down middle aged maid loooooooong before she could pull off Effie Melody White, right?
But you need to feel Caroline's pain, not laugh at her wonky ass faces for 2 hours.
But still...I'm not talking about quality of performance. I'm talking about age-appropriateness. I assumed she'd try to take on this role to move away from Effie. I still hope she does.

Isn't she thin now, too, so she doesn't even have the appropriate body type anymore?

I wonder if this is a co-production with Wolf Trap. She will be performing Dreamgirls there about two weeks after the run in Atlanta.
Sure, her portrayal was iconic but I really think it's time to say goodbye to Effie. I actually think it was time to say goodbye to Effie 20 years ago.

Weren't any of you paying attention when she sang "And I am telling you, I'm not going?"
To be honest, Jennifer is a terrible actress. Her talent was always gospel belt singing. She should have had Bernadette Peters' agent get her gigs on the concert tour circuit.
