After a long, twisting developmental process, a musical adaptation of Beaches takes up space tomorrow (March 27) at the Majestic Theatre. The uplifting, tear-jerking “love story about friendship” is based on the Iris Rainer Dart novel and the 1988 Bette Midler-Barbara Hershey film; Jessica Vosk and Kelli Barrett lead the 12-person cast as besties Cee Cee and Bertie. Beaches features an original score by Mike Stoller and Dart (yes, “Wind Beneath My Wings” is also included), with a book by Dart and Thom Thomas, choreography by Jennifer Rias, and direction by Lonny Price and Matt Cowart. Opening night is April 22 for a run through September 6; a national tour is expected to follow.
“This sweeping story follows the vivacious Cee Cee and elegant Bertie, who meet as children and form an unshakeable bond. Over the course of their 30-year friendship, these unlikely soulmates find joy, humor, and heartbreak in a pour-your-heart-out production that’s made to be shared.”

I’m seeing it next week since I’m a completist, but this was the LAST ticket of the season I purchased. Nothing really excites me about it, and I think $65 on TDF was too much of an overspend, but considering how the sales are nonexistent, that overspend might give me something premium. The original film is okay for a chick flick.
I know the film remake with Idina Menzel and her rendition of “Wind Beneath My Wings” was like a cheese grater on my ears, so I hope Vosk isn’t directed to sing it with that much power

It was a 2017 made-for-television Lifetime movie with Idina Menzel and Nia Long.

I’m praying they throw out beach balls at the end like “Escape to Margaritaville” did, while the cast does the “Wind Beneath My Wings” curtain call encore.

Margaritaville was, at least, a fun show. This just appears like a complete dud.

When they decided to not include the song, they also decided to cut the swag.

Sorry, but to qualify, you have to flee to the opera at least TWICE a week…
(I’m now singing that in my head. Thank you and damn you)

For those wondering, tonight's dress ran around two and a half hours. As it was a dress rehearsal and I am not an influencer who was invited in exchange for a post (like Titanique did at their dress rehearsal), I won't post a review. But I'll say this: all three kids are fantastic, but Little Cece is gonna steal the show! :)

WBMW was the only song retained from the movie (likely because if they cut it, they would lose any hope of selling tickets at all).
