It's now been confirmed Wallace will be replacing Joshua as Favorite Son.

Wallace Smith, who currently plays Hud in HAIR, announced on Facebook yesterday that he will be joining the cast of American Idiot.

If it is your first time seeing the show, and you want to sit in the orchestra, then yes, row A is WAY too close. I've seen the show 14 times between Berkeley and NYC. At the St. James, the best seating is the Orchestra starting at Row E back. In fact that's where Green Day sits when they see the show. Hope that helps.

ABC? CBS. They get to control 3 of the 4 awards shows (why else do you think they had Green Day on? They are in bed with them from the Grammys.) I would love to see theater on "popular" TV more, such as when Colbert had Fela! on. And yes, Elton could do more, and should do more. I actually don't think Gaga would be opposed to musicals, it might actually just be her cup of tea.

Fame corrupts people, and makes them self centered. Look no further than precious Lea Michelle. I'm not saying that agree with the Tony people for bringing in as much pop culture as they do. But I think to disregard it completely because the theater community feels threatened by the unfamiliar is closed minded and immature. You can't close your eyes, plug your ears, and wish away the fact that Broadway has commercialized. It's not going to change a damn thing.

Having meet Billie in formal and informal events, I will tell you he is not the smug person in Green Day. If anyone in the band has an occasional smug streak, it's Tre Cool (though I still think the world of him). I think more than anything Billie simply hated the teleprompter. He's not used to it. I know first hand he has a great deal of respect for the Broadway community. Secondly, it's a rock musical, that's the whole gig. I for one will miss Matt, I liked his performance and voice, and he was always nice to talk to after the show.... But, at the same time, I'm looking forward to seeing what Sands has to offer the part (I'll be honest, I know nothing about him)... But mainly I'm just happy that for the most part, its the same awesome group of individuals I got to know last fall. Very excited to see them all on TV this Sunday.

So, my good friend Vince emailed the guy who wrote the article listing the September opening date, and here is what he said: Hi Vince, Ouch, I just re-traced my steps and saw that the Rolling Stone piece I was using is an old one that says it "would be" opening in September 2009 at Berkeley Rep, not on Broadway in September 2010. Here's an interesting bit of news on the Broadway opening I just read: "And Green Day is coming to Broadway in September with a staged version of its classic concept album, "American Idiot." http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_14078128 I have no clue how accurate this is, maybe the guy got his information mixed up with the Berkeley opening date. If it is accurate, that is certainly not the spring opening we've been hearing about

One thing to note is that this does have Billie Joe Armstrong singing a part normally sung by John Gallegher Jr., Matt Caplan, and Michael Esper. He doesn't actually perform in the show at all

A neat and pretty theater definitely would be terrible for the show, it would take away from the show's rawness.

Yes, almost all of the Green Day fans that have seen the show love it, there's no question about that. It's the theater going audience that is mixed on their feelings about the show. Mayer does, and has been working a great deal on this show. I attended 10 shows in the Berkeley run, starting with the very first public preview to closing night last week, and in that time frame I have seen the show evolve greatly. It is sad that the initial reviews were based on its early incarnation, which in contrast to its current state is A LOT rougher.
