Wallace Smith, who currently plays Hud in HAIR, announced on Facebook yesterday that he will be joining the cast of American Idiot.

Will he be ensemble, or take over for one of the leads/featured parts? I can't see him as the main black track in the show- The General.

I wouldn't be surprised if Josh Henry was returning to In the Heights to replace Chris Jackson, with Smith taking over his "black track", as darquegk so eloquently put it.

Hey- mock the terminology all you want, but in Equity, if a track is cast black and has no ethnic specifications at all, they try to KEEP it black. That's the reason Rent remained essentially ethnically stagnant throughout its run.

taylor, I don't know exactly when, but I'm sure he's a little tired of Heights, seeing as he's been with the show for 3 years now. A steady paycheck is a steady paycheck, but I doubt this'll be a George Lee Andrews situation.

I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves after the summer to pursue either a role in the movie or in a certain Broadway-bound new musical, or to rest easy for a bit and spend time with his child.

Chris Jackson was cast in The Last Goodbye at Williamstown as Tybalt, but didn't want to leave his newborn and wife in New York! :)

loved him in ragtime, and thought he would be perfect for hud(havent seen him in hair tho) but i doubt he would be going into the favorite son track. he's not really ripped and i think that part of the show calls for a visibly cut up dude. maybe steriods are in his contract?

Not sure about the first part (although it wouldn't surprise me or disappoint me either), but I am almost certain Smith is replacing Josh Henry as Favorite Son.

Is the character/track named "Favorite Son," or is it just "the guy who sings Favorite Son?" The lack of character names always confused me a bit. It's something I suppose no one will know for sure until we get an actual copy of the score.
