Hey All -

Just wondering if anyone had information as to WHEN PBS plans to broadcast and/or release the DVD of Kevin Kline's masterful performance in CYRANO de BERGERAC from last season? I remember rumblings of "sometime in January '09" - I haven't heard anything since. Anyone know anything?

Best,
- Mike CYRANO on Great Performances

I was wondering about this as well. I hope someone knows!

It's a safe bet that CYRANO will air during the PBS fund drive in December.

Bumping with a bit of an update.

I was scrounging about Amazon, piecing together the last of my Christmas wishlist, when all of the sudden, I stumbled upon CYRANO (w/ Kevin Kline) on DVD.

Here's the scoop!

I don't know how to get the cover image up on here...
Any help appreciated. Anyone wanna just put it up here, that's fine and dandy with me. I think it looks great!

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

Thank you guys so much for posting! Cyrano has been my favorite play since I was "forced" to read it for English my sophomore year of high school. I was very disappointed I couldn't see it in NY, but this makes it all better!

Judging from the cover art, this is a filmed version of the stage presentation and not a real "movie". Interesting. On stage Kline made his entrance swinging onto the stage from an audience box. I wonder if that will be retained in this version.

...and it WAS!

I cannot say enough about this performance.

The most enthralling piece of theatre of 2007, for me, anyway.

re: CYRANO on Great Performances

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Just watched that clip.

Jennifer Gardner is so beautiful. I just wish her performance wasn't so overripe-Masterpiece-Theater-esque.

Kevin Kline. Is. He just is. Awesome.

Hey there ya'll. I have had my copy on pre-order on Amazon since it was posted, but I had to change my address (back to school time) and I noticed the item description page

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001HB1JZQ

doesn't list Garner or Kline... anyone know why?
