I saw him yesterday as Roger in Rent... I was blown away by the entire cast, but he was fabulous. This was my first time seeing Rent and I was at a loss for words. I was completely moved and now am even MORE excited about the movie (if that was possible...)! Anyway, has anyone else seen him? What did you think?

I love Jay! He's fantastic. Glad other people think so. I used to get my daily fix watching him on One Life to Live. It's upsetting that he left.

I saw him as Roger two weeks ago and he was great in the role. He was real nice at the stage door too.

I'm kind of glad more people get the chance to see Jay as Roger since Cary has been sick (now just taking the time off). I've seen Jay!Roger three times. I must say the first time was the best of the three. Lack of sleep made me think Shields was on the stage half the time on October 15th and 16th. His performance is wonderful and I heard that he and Antonique are electrifying. I can't wait to see her with Cary, since I can't see Jay!Roger anytime soon.

I miss him as Riley on One Life. That was a sad day when he left

hmm...

I saw him as roger and i was impressed. He wasn't my favorite roger but he was good.

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

I saw Jay in August as Roger...and was impressed. And, he was so nice afterwards. :)

He was so sweet! I got my picture taken with him and Matt Caplan and was acting quite Fan girl-y and he was so nice and not at all weirded out my random giddiness (because that man is FINE!)... He and Antonique were brilliant together.

Now that I'm thinking about it, do you think it's possible that understudies perform better than the regular people playing the roles? I mean...these understudies are probably excited like crazy when they get to be one of the main characters every now and then...and even if they hear it and are there every night, when THEY perform it, it's fresh...whereas the normal people that play it, it might get a little old for them, and that might come out in their performances. When I talked to Justin (current Angel) about this, he said that yeah, they do get a little tired of it sometimes since they're doing the show like 8 times a week (but he said of course they still love it every chance they get) --- I've never seen an understudy perform, but I'd like to. I bet it would be worth seeing.

I have a question about understudies, if there is an understudy do they always put the little slip in the playbill, because I think I might have seen Nicolette Hart as Maureen because the woman playing Maureen had blond hair, not dark like Ava Gaudet and I wasn't sure if she perhaps wears a wig or dyed or hair or something like that or if it just was the understudy... Well, whoever she was she was HYSTERICAL and had a voice to match Idina's... By the way, was anyone else at the Saturday matinee?

And that was one ridiculously long run-on sentence.

Usually there are slips...but sometimes not every playbill gets one. I do believe Nicolette Hart was on last night. :)

So then, this would further prove understudies bringing a lot to the part because they are most likely more excited about it. Her Over the Moon was the funniest thing I've probably ever seen in my entire life... I'm already trying to plan another trip to go see the show!!

I have seen many understudies that are better in the roles that the actual full-timers. There are some in the cast right now. And I love Jay's Roger. I saw his first back in January. not to be superficial or anything but I liked him from the moment he walked out. I miss seeing him on One Life to Love too.

I have been looking forward to seeing Jay as Roger, and finally got to see him this afternoon. His acting was fabulous and his singing was very pretty too and sometimes sounded like Jeremy Kushnier! And definitely has the Roger-look!
I saw him as Mark a few months ago too, and again, great job!

Jay's a good Roger. Not great, but good. :) I have enjoyed his performances a few times now.

Regarding the question about u/s being better because they're excited to go on, and it happens so infrequently. Well, that may be the case in some shows, but in Rent, the u/s go on often. It's a rarity that a show is full cast these days. Not to say that the u/s still isn't happy to go on, but just that it happens with a fair amount of regularity in Rent.

How long will Jay go on as Roger? Cary is on vacation...? (sorry I don't know and I just tried searching.)
