"BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Actor Glenn Ford, who played strong, thoughtful protagonists in films such as "The Blackboard Jungle," "Gilda" and "The Big Heat," died Wednesday, police said. He was 90.
Paramedics called to Ford's home just before 4 p.m. found Ford dead, police Sgt. Terry Nutall said, reading a prepared statement. "They do not suspect foul play," he said.
Ford suffered a series of strokes in the 1990s."
Actor Glenn Ford dies at 90
It was bound to happen.
And he was one of the great loves of Judy Garland's life.
If only it had worked out...

That's sad to hear. I really liked him in "The Blackboard Jungle".
"It was bound to happen."
Well, yes. It's bound to happen to everyone.
And he was one of the great loves of Judy Garland's life.
If only it had worked out...
Glen Ford was GAY? I am shocked. (But not surprised.)
Sad to hear of his passing. He was one of those actors I was always pleasantly surprised to see turn up in a film. So likable and genuine.
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound flippant; I was being matter-of-fact.
"Glen Ford was GAY? I am shocked. (But not surprised.)"
Good one, Sueleen.
Man, give me some "Courtship of Eddie's Father" Glenn, or his great performance in the original "Ransom" movie anyday!
And yes, it was bound to happen. To all of these greats, as they get older. I'm always laughing at the "I'm so shocked!" comments when some 90 plus actor finally passes on.
That's what I was getting at, justme2.

I don't think that anyone in this thread said that they were shocked that he had died. The shocked statement was about him possibly being gay.
Yeah, I'm with you on this one!

Who said he was gay?
"He married actress-dancer Eleanor Powell in 1943; the two divorced in 1959. They had a son, Peter. A 1965 marriage to actress Kathryn Hays ended quickly. In 1977, he married model Cynthia Hayward, 32 years his junior. They were divorced in 1984."
So many films including: "Blackboard Jungle" (On TCM just the other day), "Gilda", "Teahouse of the August Moon", "The Gazebo", "Pocketful of Miracles", "Courtship of Eddie's Father", "The Rounders", "Superman" (197, "Happy Birthday to Me".
He also had a CBS Series, "Cades County" which lasted for one season in 1971-72. He played, "Sam Cade the tough but sensitive sheriff of sprawling Madrid County located somewhere in the American Southwest. Between chases and shootouts, episodes deal with a number of relevant '70s issues such as the plight of the American Indian." (IMDB) Martin Sheen, William Shatner, Lou Gossett Jr, Bobby Darin, Leif Garrett, Loretta Swit, E J Peaker, Bobby Sherman, Ed Asner, O J Simpson, Russ Tamblyn, Barbara Rush and Shelley Fabares were among the guest stars. Richard Donner was one of the directors on that show.
Someone earlier was referencing his relationship with Garland and then someone else and then.....oh, nevermind. That's all.
And MY comment(this is for pab) was IN GENERAL, as I see whenever one of these thread's pops up, someone is invariably "shocked" to find out some 90 plus year old actor has finally passed on.
That's all.

I think the "shocked" statement may have been poking fun at another thread here about someone who was shocked over a gay relative. I might be wrong, though.
Anyway, 90 is a good run but he has been in bad health for a long, long time. RIP.
So....getting back to GLENN FORD, did anyone see him in Teahouse of the August Moon? I loved him in that, as well.
Oh, good lord, it's just a joke implying that anyone Judy loved turned out to be gay.
Hello? Grace... Where's Will?
Are we done here?
Glenn Ford was one of the great American movie stars. He set the standard for the American male in the 50's. The original family guy...
He will be missed. (gay or straight)
In between his marriages, he had a major affair with Hope Lange, famously having Shirley Jones replaced on A POCKETFUL OF MIRACLES, with her. Shirley still got paid, though.
I absolutely LOVED him in a little gem of a movie called "Dear Heart" with Geraldine Page. Angela Landsbury was also in it. AMC or one of the other cables may show it again since Mr. Ford's passed. He was definitely a good one!
DEAR HEART is one of my favorite films! "Phyllis just wants to pick-up the telephone."

One of the best - RIP!
"Happy Birthday to Me" is one of my guiltiest pleasures. Glenn was so good in it. I love when great actors are placed in b-movies later in their careers. Glenn was so austere and wonderful in this campy classic. Melissa Sue Anderson was great as well. A total blast. I wish you peace Mr. Ford.
