I remember thinking this was tacky when Rachel Potter retweeted this review: “Rachel Potter is a blessed oasis performing one of the show’s strongest tunes “Another Suitcase In Another Hall.” You’re tempted to assume that the main reason Evita tosses out this mistress of Juan Peron is simply because Potter has a much better singing voice.”
- Michael Giltz, The Huffington Post... then just now saw the same line on her website after clicking on the link in a BWW article. I loved Rachel's singing in EVITA but definitely raised an eyebrow at her promoting herself with this review... is that frowned upon in the business or is it just every man for himself??

That is incredible tacky of her. And although Roger's voice is not great, I think it is very unique and I personally really liked her. I'm with the Brits on this one. And Rachel Potter, although lovely in her role, should be reprimanded by her employers.

Posted: 5/14/12 at 7:30pmThat's incredibly rude. In all honesty she didn't get notice in a lot of reviews I read one way or the other since her role isn't that integral to the show so I'm sure she was exhilarated to get such a rave and meant no harm by it, but it's really inappropriate.

In very poor taste. Personally this makes her look quite bad in my opinion. Tacky.

If she absolutely had to use it the classier thing to do would have been to not use the whole quote and just use the first part.
"Rachel Potter is a blessed oasis performing one of the show’s strongest tunes..."

Posted: 5/14/12 at 8:06pmDefinitely... but even that implies the show surrounding her was weak... I feel like that's the kind of review you can share with your friends and family and enjoy but not advertise! I mean, that's your co-worker... not to mention the star of the show!

Posted: 5/14/12 at 8:12pmI'm sure she's not the one who posted the review excerpts directly, probably someone in charge of managing and maintaining her website. Not that I am defending her, this kind of makes her look bad. She's a great performer, I'll give her that.

Posted: 5/14/12 at 8:59pmIf she is in charge of her website it's all the worst. Honestly, I could kinda see a performer doing that AFTER the show's run, but wow.

I really hope she isn't the one who posted that entire quote.
I know I haven't yet said it but all the negative commentary Roger has been getting on her voice is starting to come across as unfair. I can see how she could leave much to be desired in Evita, but it simply isn't true that she can't sing and "isn't good." I'm aware that it's likely meant she isn't good as Eva and not that she isn't a good performer with talent, but after so much has been said, it all tends to get muddled and that's where it starts to feel misplaced.
That said, I've never seen Roger live on stage so I'm not doubting anyone but I do feel compelled to say that I've always enjoyed her Fantine in a soundboard and video I have of the Argentinian production of Les Miserables. She has a gorgeous and very strong voice and I would love to see her perform that role in English.

Wonder if Obama will see Evita tonight as he's in town, and what will he think of the Mistress?

Posted: 5/15/12 at 10:47amI don't think this is nearly as bad as Hunter posting snarky things about Catherine Zeta-Jones. If he wanted to play Desiree, he should have auditioned.

I can't remember if Hunter Foster specifically named CZJ, but she was one of the group he was targeting.
When CZJ was in A Little Night Music, Hunter Foster and his wife took to Facebook to whine about movie stars taking parts on Broadway. Their tiny minds couldn't bother to do three seconds of research to discover that CZJ had performed in West End musicals before ever setting foot on a Broadway stage.
